OK...once in a great while I get a nifty thought!
I started putting I don't accept PAYPAL in my auctions...then got the idea to put 'other' and 'on approval'...so..those auctions where they want to use a CC I can accept PAYPAL up to their $100 a month limit.
Then I can switch to BIDPAY for those who want to pay via CC.(Sure..bidpay is a bit more...but this way I won't be charged on PP for all transactions...)

Boy you guys know how to make someone feel good about their ideas!!!!!!! (sniff sniff) .
It might be clear to a LOT of people...but I'm extremely gullible and follow the rules..until someone points a better way (teehee)...
So how come you all didn't tell me about this idea???? Aren't you might friends???
Just kidding...and I thought my idea was good enough to post...guess I'll have to start thinking again...(and that hurts to think ya know).
Zazzie
No silly! I offer M/O-Checks-and now 'other'...I will specify when they ask about payment via credit card that it be with PP (unless I'm at the limit for the month)..and then it'll be with Billpoint until I get started over with my $100 limit.
Billpoint doesn't charge the buyer anything..does it???
I simply put in my auctions that I take PayPal for non-credit cards only [I mention e-checks and account transfer]. Then, if I have enough balance in my account, I can offer a buyer at the time of my "winner's email" that they can in fact use a credit card if they want.
I also offer EP and Paydirect and say up front that they are for credit card payments.
Works like a dream. I get tons of PayPal payments but it's all still free.

I'm an eBay seller from Canada. Until just recently, PayPal was only available to people who had a US bank account and address, so I was out of luck.
I had many payments arrive in the form of international money orders, cash, and BidPay, since BidPay was the only on-line payment I could use as a Canadian resident.
I had many people grumble and complain about paying the $5 fee for using BidPay, but nevertheless, I had people use it to pay for items low priced items under $20 quite often, even for an item costing $4.95!
As soon as I could accept PayPal, I signed up, and took the Premeier Account. Yes, it does me a bit, but I got sick of bidders complaining that I didn't accept PayPal. I think people will spend more if they can use a credit card, and bidders seem to really like it.
The fees are really quite insignificant when you consider the convenience and pleasure, plus the satisfied customers. I now have about half my payments made through PayPal, the remainder in US cash, with a few people paying by money order.
I don't think it's worth begrudging people the convenience of PayPal for the sake of saving yourself a few cents, if that was the point of this thread.

I'm assuming your Paypal email is not the same as your ebay email. If not - and actually even if it IS different - you're going to get a lot of folks seeing "Paypal" and sending you payment whether you "approve" or not.

I realize that the amount that we already pay out to ebay that the added expense of using Paypal is an added BIG burden....But ...Heck....Everything has it's price....and I for one feel that the fast turn around that happens when I use Paypal...buying, or selling....makes it worth the 2 bits......I live in a rather small house and my shed is my warehouse...when I post items they come in of course and take up "space" in living area's...It is a pleasure to have Paypal customers because the mighty fast shippment makes it worth it "to me"...To each their own"....I wouldn't spend half the time you have spent trying to figure out a way to slide around paying for this luxury....It's just NOT in my nature...I say life is way to short to be spending so much time trying to find ways to get around spending a little to make life more enjyable....That's just my opinon...!!!
