Can anyone tell me how to clean an old piece of steel jewelry with damaging it????
This piece has a sheet of rust covering it.

Have you tried using a CLR type of cleaner?

It is designed to remove calcium, lime and rust deposits.

No matter what you do if it is covered with rust it is going to be stained or pitted. If you can polish the surface with and abrasive you may be able to recover it but it is not easy to do so and get a good finish.
