Geez..I just looked at Hummels on ebay and a Hummel that books for $800 sold for just over $200. Is there a better place to sell Hummels other than ebay???
I know "book value" is just a guide and things don't always bring that amount.

You could always ask the author of the book to buy it for $800, like the book says.
It's been observed for a couple of years that "book value" does not apply to eBay. The supposed "collectibles" are finding new lows as the law of supply and demand takes over.

"Book value" doesn't apply, period. By the time the widget guidebook's published, the widget market could've gone cold or taken off right through the roof.
I can't recall where I read it recently (AW news story? Check archives) but I believe that the Hummel market has been pretty bad for some time now.
There is a site whose URL I can't mention which has a "price finder" which, when you use it for a keyword search, gives you the high, low, median, average and weighted average sales for that item for the past month on several auction sites. Pretty useful. Maybe if you do a standard internet search it'll come up...
