Hello. We have been using a Sony Mavica camera for a little while now. It is camera mvc-fd73. It is great. Our question is about the battery. When we were charging it up, it has 120 minutes on it. Recently it only goes for about 50 minutes. Even when we go to recharge, the light goes out and then we try it again and it comes up with approx 50 minutes. Do we need another battery? Is there any way to bypass the battery and run it with electric? Thank you

Try this. Run the battery ALL the way DEAD - until it will absolutely not take any more pictures.

Then recharge and see what happens. Sometimes they get "stuck.

Also, clean the terminals on the battery and the charger with a pencil eraser. It might not be getting good contact.

I've had the Mavica for a couple of years and got a second battery when I did get it.
For at least 2 yrs all went well, then all of a sudden both batteries went dead at the same time all most, no recharging would work.
Panic set in, my camera is broken?? NOT.
Found out from a camera shop that these rechargables only last for a couple of years really, and you should never recharge it more than about 4 to 6 hrs...Don't leave the extra battery in the charger, it will ruin it faster than ever...
The replacesments I got last a lot lot longer than the original ones.
It was a good 80 buck investment, and they should last about 4 or 5 yrs.

Some older batteries have a memory. If you recharge them too many times before they are as abacaxi said all the way dead, they won't fully recharge after awhile. I don't know about Sony but there are new batteries out there that don't have a memory. They make them for paranoid people like me who can't stand to see a battery half charged.

Hello. Thanks for some of the help. But what gets me is that I purchased this camera about a month ago. Battery should not be running down that fast? When I put it into the charger, the light comes on for a quick moment then goes out. I left it on for two hours and now the battery has 48 minutes left.

Sony Mavica batteries do not suffer from the memory problem. I have been using the same 3 battieries for over 2 years without a problem.

blurocks -
Maybe the CHARGER has a problem. If you have a friend with the same charger, try theirs and see what happens.

sock -- my Sony battery originally charged up to 160 minutes, and now it only charges up to 140 minutes. I think it lost some time because I charged it once before it was totally dead. Where do you get those Lithium-Ion batteries that don't have "memory"?

My mavica came with a totally dead battery which would not take a charge. I had to go to WalMart and buy another. Suddenly, my great deal on ebay (where I bought the camera) was not such a good deal.
Not my name on ebay.

The charger light goes out after approx 60 mins but that is not at full charge.

2 to 3 hours is the full recharge, but as listed above longer periods may do more harm.

I called Sony today. They told me it is probably the charger. Cause the light only comes in for a second or two then goes out. Has anyone use the optional power adaptor instead of the battery? In the manual, they also said this camera (fd73) also accepts a ac power adaptor. Anyone use one?

I'm sorry but that is bull that Sony told you. I've had the original charger for mine and the lite goes on when you first put the battery in and then goes out right away.
It's still charging.
I think you have bad batteries and would fuss at Sony to replace them.
You can find out for sure if it is the battery or the charger, go to a camera shop that does have these cameras, they will be glad to help you....
I had a terrible time in the begining trying to get an extra battery from Sony, real run around, when I bluntly said I was going to return the camera if I didn't get some service and fast, they were all over them selves getting me the right stuff.
Go to the camera shop and ask for help. They can also get you the extra battery and not charge an arm or a leg. A GOOD camera shop that repairs and sells.
Just the ol bitty sounding off folks!!!!

My book specifically states that you allow it to continue charging for an hour after the light goes out. THEN you have (theoretically) fully charged it.

sharkbaby, my book says the same thing. I always leave it on at least an hour after the light goes out.

My mavica 73 came with an Arcsoft disk & I can't find it. Can someone tell me what is on the disk & is it important. For instance to maybe register your camera for a warranty.
I know it will show up, but for now I have to wonder what the disk is for, any information would be appreciated.

Hi - The Arcsoft disc is a photoshop disc for "fixing" your pictures like enhancing, brightening, darkening and rotating. I loaded mine and use it for "fixing" my pictures and renaming them.
