My daughter who plays flute in the band had a key break on her flute. It is going to cost alot to fix it. I think it is about time to look into buying another. Just wondering if there was one posted? I hope I can ask this..I am not sure if I can but I am a desperate.

If you do not find one on eBay perhaps you can go to the local music store and ask if they have a used one.

Good luck - I know instruments are expensive. I had to buy a sax for my daughter this year. $600 at a discount!

OUCH!

Wow they are exspensive. I will spend this week looking around. Would you trust buying one on one of the auction sites?

Hi Dialin,

I sold a trombone about a month ago, and it was like new. I would check on ebay to see what they have, you never know. Good luck to you!

I've sold 2 flutes this past summer. Many of the bidders are dealers looking for bargains to retail in their brick & mortar establishments. You can usually tell a good one by looking at who is bidding on it. A lot of the dealers are very obvious by their usernames. In both instances, I did very well and the buyers got quality instruments at less than half what they would have spent in a music store.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

You can get about any flute you want on ebay. All price ranges are usually available. One of the best you could get for around 400.00 to 700.00 (used price) is a Gemeinhardt 3SB. It's a step up instrument, bordering on being a pro model. These have a solid silver body and head joint, open holes, B foot, gizmo key, the works. The open holes can easily be plugged off if she needs closed holes for now.

But even getting a much cheaper flute with just a solid silver head joint (and a silver plated body) and a B foot would be great. It would be a flute that she could really grow into. Most teachers like the B foot models (as opposed to the normal C foot).

You can find a normal C foot, non-solid silver head flute for cheap, sometimes for under 100.00 even, but be prepared to have your repairman look it over for adjustments, pads and whatnot so it will play well. These would be Gemeinhardt 2SP, Artley 18-0 and the like.

I went to look at completed auctions. The Artley 18-0 tends to bring less than 100.00 used. Gemeinhardt 2SP averages around 135.00 to 150.00 used.

These are only two brands but they are major brand names, made in the USA. Please don't get one of those made in China things. They aren't that great and they have no resale value if you ever decide to sell it.
