No reason to feel bad. You're doing everyone else a favor by helping weed out the deadbeats. Go have some ice cream, you'll feel better.

I'm finally starting to feel more comfortable with leaving negatives, although I feel bad about the last one I left.
I found out the bidder's computer stopped working. I sent him my EOA and a reminder while it was still working. Almost a month later, no money, and his email bounced, so I negged him and emailed safharbor.
He finally emailed me, but a bit too late.
Turns out the payment truly was lost in the mail, he supplied proof he bought the money order 2 days after the auction. I felt bad, and I'm hoping he won't neg me, but I wouldn't blame him if he did.
From what I hear, retaliatory feedback isn't as rampant as I thought. We should try to leave calm, professional comments rather than childish name calling in blocks capitals.
I think as long as we are fair, allow a few weeks, just be sure, and post a polite but firm negative, we're doing the right thing.
I'm getting sick of dragging out payments for six to eight weeks. This is not going to on any more, even if I have email contact.

SLW12, if it's a true deadbeat bidder he/she may not even log onto eBay that often, and may not ntoice the negative for a while, if ever. I bet some newbies don't even know how to look at their feedback rating.
BTW: I'm about to neg someone with 30 positives and one neg (from 1 year ago). She has avoided replying to 4 emails, and it's been over a month. I filed a NPB alert last week, oh happy days, muhahahahaha!!!

I don't think negs bother deadbeats at all. And that's not why you leave them anyway, they are for the rest of eBay to know what they are dealing with.

You never forget your first neg ~ on the giving or receiving end! I've had almost 1000 transactions now and have had to leave about 30 negs (most in the last 2 months but that's another thread...). I just got my first retaliatory neg and I have to admit, it hurt! I consider myself a responsible citizen of eBay and I need to "protect" my peers (both buyers and sellers) from the "bad guys". That means negs, NPB's, and FVF ~ the means we have to use to keep eBay "fair". Put a notch in your belt, don't sweat over it and pat yourself on the back for helping us out. I would hate to be outbid by a deadbeat as much as I hate having them bid on my auctions! BTW, congratulations ~ your next "first" will be the grumpy mail you get from an NPB you NRU

first you should feel bad if you lfet a neg, because they did not follow through, why waste all that time, the time you spend tryint to get your money you could have made double using your time to sell. I think neg, feedback should only be used when someone ripps you off, example: you send money and never get the product, and only after 30 days, that is what ebay recommends and federal mail order laws says you have 30 days to fill a order if you cannot do it in 30 days, you notifly the buyer, and tell them there is a delay and you must offer them a refund, if they don't ask for the refund you automatic get additional 30 days, that is why on tv products you see "please allow 6 tp 8 weeks for delivery. I keep around 2500 auctions on different sites and ebay has the best sells, but the worst people I Have every seen, the most in patience people, if you don't answer a email right now to them its a sin. the ebay feedback system will eventually destroy them. they are losing good volume busines who has been in business for years because of the feeback system. I have had people who credit card would be denied and them get mad at me for not shipping and file frand complaints with ebay and then they spam you, and anyone that has not gotten there product gets concern and they start leaving negatives, so I think unless ebay changes soon thry will be in trouble
