I have sold on eBay for about a year now. My husband and I have done very well as sellers on eBay. The only problem we have ever had are stupid bidders. One of my favorite and most memorable was a girl who bid who bid around $50 for an item and emailed me not ten minutes later to ask me to cancel her bid. Why? Because she already had one of these one-of-a-kind items and didnt know why she had bid on a second. She claimed that she didnt even want it. My next favorite was a lady in Canada who bid and won an item. She asked us for shipping charges, so we went to USPS.com that night to get an estimate. We emailed her back and she told us that the amount was too much. Well we went to our local PO to have them price it and give us an estimate. Same price, she still claimed that this was too much but she would pay it.(I should add to this that I am also a bidder and have gotten screwed so many times on shipping I always try to give my bidders the cost for shipping only, no other weird charges and I am very fair). So we went to our local PO to send the package when she sent payment. It actually ended up costing us about five cents less then was earlier predicted. Well when she got the package she went insane and told us that we had ripped her off on shipping. She also said she was disapointed in us for lying about shipping then not refunding her nickel. I think we finally we did send her nickle back because she honestly made me feel bad. ALthough these two were not the most annoying. The most annoying was a woman who bid on a magazine in June, we had about 20 magazines up at the time. We emailed her an EOA and she never mailed us back. About a week later we got a blank money order with no name, address, email address, auction number....just a blank money order. Well my plan was to wait until the person emailed us to claim they had sent a money order because, frankly, after getting so many of these no-info blank MO's I was getting sick of spending hours trying to figure out who they belonged to. We never got an email and eventually forgot about it. So here we are December and we get an email from an angry bidder claiming we had never sent her magazine. Guess who? I am amazed at bidders sometimes.

I, too, have had my share of problem bidders. My main problem is they just don't read. Luckily my wonderful customers outweigh the bad ones.
Feel free to post your vents here anytime you want. Some people just like to stir up trouble and have a "thing" for putting other posters down. You'll learn who you have to ignore

I had a stupid bidder that won an item and never paid. Well it was over a month and I filed a NPB alert. She emailed right away and said she wanted to pay as soon as possible to save her account. By looking at her profile she was no longer a registered user and one more NPB would kick her off for good. It felt so good giving the last one that bumped her off!

Feel free to vent to your hearts content. That is what we are here for..support and a sympathetic ear.
We all have bidders that expect the world for nothing..no way around it.
All we can do is look at our great bidders and the new friends we have found from the auctions.
My .02 cents

I for one really appreciate your contribution. For a long time I have been a buyer on eBay but not a seller. I've had a few bad experiences as a buyer, but overall it's been a worthwhile and pleasant experience. Most of the sellers I've dealt with have been like yourself, responsive and concerned that I'm a satisfied buyer. Personally, I feel a little honored they took a chance selling to someone they can't see or know anything about. That may sound corny to some but that's how I view it. I'm going to be selling some items so your experience and others serve as my roadmap as to what's ahead. I see I need to be prepared. Don't worry about unsolicited and detached comments that come from people like Meya. You're right, among the deadbeat bidders there are the decided-to-be-unsatisfied types you're going to have to deal with. Let's face it, there are the "stupid bidder" types as well who refuse to think first and take responsibility for their bid and what they bid on! They expect the seller to accomodate their mistake for the lack of their own proper assessments. You've got every right to say the things you are saying.

Here's my best one. The auction closed on a Barbie dollhouse ornament that was listed in the hallmark ornmament section. The item was described and a picture of the ornament in the box was shown (it was brand new never out of the box) . The item sold for about $12.95 plus $3.20 postage. I email my bidder with the information. She writes back that she thought it was one of those Barbie doll houses for girls (we're talking about one of those giant doll houses that run about $100 new). She tells me she shouldn't have to pay for it because I misrepresented my auction!! I look at her bidding and she is bidding on child-size doll houses. It was obvious she was bidding without reading anything. After some stern yet professional emails she did pay for it. Ya gotta love 'em.

Hart: We have all had our share of bad bidders. We have all complained about certain bidders at one time or another. Yes, there ARE "stupid" bidders. Let's face it.
Meya not only "pointed out how it's hardly gracious to to call your customers "stupid" but let her true colors shine through as well, with her "waaaaaaa".
So I guess being extremely childish and immature is ok though?
Good grief.

IMHO a lot of us forget that not only sellers, but buyers lurk here. When you call your buyers stupid, how do you know they are not reading your post? You are free to vent, just be careful not to say something you may later regret.
And boy, am I getting my share of "those" bidders. Had a person bid on a 30 year old item (year posted in title and auction) and they were disappointed because it wasn't new!!

Ah don't fight over me now! I have no problem with posting about problem bidders. I posted my reaction to the original post without really thinking.
Lack of estrogen will do that you know. Rather than continue to take out my bad mood on the boards, I hit the thrift shops. Found some ok stuff, enjoyed the rare dose of sunshine that came our way in Ohio today, and for what it's worth, I'm still grumpy!!!
I meant nothing personal ki, really.
Hey ExecutiveGirl, you ever think of going in PR work?

As a buyer only, I have to second rarriffle comments. There are days I wonder why I continue to read this board and others days I figure the reason I stay is, I hope I can make a valuable contirbution by providing a buyer's view.

P.S. Please remember when posting (or emailing) that people can not read your body language or see your face. They cannot judge all of those little signs that indicate humor, anger, irony, sarcasm or wit. What you write will probably be taken at least 10 diffferent ways by 8 different people.

I am not calling all my buyers stupid. Just a couple who dont read or just plain dont care about how they treat the sellers. I dont think that all bidders are stupid just a few. I have met some really nice people who have been more than pleasant to deal with. IMHO, I dont care if any of the bidders I described in my first email lurk here. I havent give any details or names so I dont see it as a problem. It would be different if I had called all bidders stupid which I did not.

My worst bidder was a lady who won an auction on eBay and mailed a check. Three days after the auction had ended, I get an email and she wants to know why she hasn't received her merchandise. You should keep in mind that she wasn't a novice bidder. After 2 or 3 emails, I finally got her to realize that she had my auction confused with another. I mailed her merchandise as soon as her check arrived. Think she was happy? Oh No! When the merchandise arrived, she sent several emails to complain that she had paid too much for the item and that she really didn't want it. She did say that the item arrived in perfect condition and that it was exactly as described. I informed her that auctions were not a "buy on approval" and that she must have wanted it badly enough to outbid several other bidders. Did I mention that she "snipped" in the closing seconds to win? Well, after about 12-15 emails, I'd had enough of this. I've bent over backwards in order to work with buyers-I charge exact postage only, I mail out items within 24 hours or receipt of payment, etc...I knew that I was going to get a negative rating for this, but I did email her regarding ethics, her "buy on approval" attitude and her nasty disposition. I suggested that if she felt that she was paying too much on auctions then maybe she was addicted and needed professional help. Did I get a negative feedback? You bet. Did it feel good? OH YES!! It's the only negative feedback I have and I've sold hundreds of items since then. Sometimes you learn that you just can't please everbody. Would I do it again? If the same situation arose, I'd do it in a minute. I have a lot of very loyal buyers who know that I'm a person of integrity.

I'd rather have a bit of difficulty getting an issue resolved than someone who doesn't respond. The one I recently described here at AW the other day got me ticked off enough--he's now NARU'd. He would have been better off just leaving me alone after getting a ding by eBay for non-payment.

Greg - do you ever post in the Yahoo section? The reason I ask is because I find a dearth of buyer perspective over there, especially since Yahoo raised rates.
I'm a buyer, too, of course, but I would love to see lots more posts by people who mostly buy. We get the seller's perspective all the time, so I like reading what buyers have to say.

keziak No, usually just in Ebay and RoundTable. I collect cufflinks and I looked at auctions on Yahoo months back, but starting bids were 2-3 times as much as on ebay and the selection was terible. I have never been back.
Might check out the Yahoo section here though.

That's OK MichelleG, I've never been called legendary before. It's nice to know that at least my rude behavior and personal disfunctions are getting the accolades they deserve.
I need all the attention I can get, it is part of my disfunction; you see, my parents never hugged me.
It also gives me a chance to be rude some more, which gives me a sort of a "rude rush".
Now I feel better, seeing as how I had to wait to get in to AW and post. I was having "rude withdrawals". It probably would have kept me awake tonight if I hadn't finally gotten in. Postus Interruptus and all that...
