I don't know anything about AOL.....but CuteFTP is one of the programs that carries spyware designed to send info from your computer to an advertising company without your knowledge. Maybe not the best choice for FTP software.

Steve,
What can they get from me that I already have not given to Ebay without my consent or knowledge?
I heard the Mr Lister software does the same thing.
They are out to get me!

Was it working before and now it's not? Or is this your first attempt and you're not sure what's going wrong?

Hi:
For once, somethin that I can help with.
the answer: relax. AOL gets busy sometimes and at oher times their FTP Space gets cranky. It does not like to let 3 rd part software applications access theor space, so when thigs get busy, this access is the first one to go.
Just try again, later.
If still no go...call AOL Customer Service and ask for the FTP Master. The fone-people will act like they do not know what you are talking about....but they do.
Good luck.

You are REALLY scaring me.
DR Trooth
OK. CuteFTP sounds like a junky program by all these posts.
I am open to another suggestion of software for uploading images......

Not trying to scare you- I just think it would be nice if businesses would be honest about what they are doing (to you).
Like that's going to happen.

DrTrooth is probably right. I use a different ftp program (LeechFTP) which I've been very happy with, but I've had intermittent difficulties ftp'ing stuff to my AOL web space. My stuff is stored at members.aol.com/myscreenname ("myscreenname" being my actual screen name, of course).
Sometimes it just doesn't work. It's AOL, not the ftp client.
Now I store my images on my own web site, which is hosted by dzones.com for $7.95/month (their current rate is $9.95/month for a good package).
Or you could use the built-in AOL ftp client and load your images one... at... a... time. LOL.

Potatoe
Sadly, thats a dream that was shot right through the heart some time ago.
I have not let any of this 'spyness' taint me.
I STILL think people are basically good.
It's when they walk inside those 'corporate doors' that they lose themselves.
Hey, what ever happened to Dan Quayle anyways?

Hello zeenza. I would definitely advise against using CuteFTP because of the spyware utility. The program I use is WS_FTP LE which is the free version for home users. It's very easy to use and even includes a "resume download" function. You can get it here:
http://www.ipswitch.com/cgi/download_eval.pl?product=WL-1000
Free and no spyware. you can't beat that!!

Hi Zeenza I don't use AOL so I'm not sure of their FTP procedure. I can tell you how I configured my settings for WS_FTP. In the PROFILE box just put any name you want to call your site like Zeenza's site, etc. The HOST NAME/FOLDERS should have the URL where your pics will be stored - like www.xxx.xxx.com (I don't know the URL for AOL's picture storage so you'll have to find that out). HOST TYPE is Unix for me but AOL could be different. USER ID is your ID for AOL's picture site or your home page and PASSWORD is your password for that site. STARTUP INITIAL REMOTE FOLDER for me is /home/my user ID and INITIAL LOCAL FOLDER is C: for me because that's where I keep my photos - yours will probably be different so just put in the drive where your photos are located.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help but AOL does things differently than everyone else and I just don't know their procedure. I'm sure there must be a help page somewhere on their site. Let me know how it goes.
