Virtually everything I sell on all of my auctions is relatively expensive (from $200 to as high as $5000). When I first started selling these items I used UPS a couple of times with no problems since I live near their main hub city, Louisville. However early on another seller in the same business told me that when it comes to straight overnight letters, i.e. 8 ounces or less, FedEx is recognized as the industry standard. I since have sent well over 100 FedEx letters, usually via their Priority Overnight option which is next business day by 1030am for major metro areas, and have NEVER had one problem - in my book they are simply OUTSTANDING. They are at the top of my list as far as companies whose service I'm pleased with; now on the very bottom end of that list is Ticketmaster but that is another story...

It's probably not a good time for me to answer this since UPS just lost another package I sent. I tracked it and it said it was delivered to the proper address, but it wasn't. No matter what they say, they do leave packages sitting on doorsteps and other open spaces. I have come home and found them by my door. I'm lucky, I live in a good neighborhood. My daughter does not and the package I sent my grandkids disappeared. Try to explain to two little children that their much anticipated package was given to someone else. I won't use UPS again.

I got tired of UPS hassles a long time ago. Everything from rifling through all of my packages to the customer counter only being open 2 1/2 hours a day (that's right, 1 1/2 hours in the morning, 1 hour in the evening). And leaving packages out in the open (they left a $1500.00 package I sent on my customer's porch, no signature, no protection). Fed Ex is relatively hassle-free, they are open all day, and do not see it as necessary to open all the packages.
Fed Ex still only gets 5 or 10% of my business. I use them on larger, heavier packages to give my customers a cheaper shipping option. US Postal the other 90 or 95%. UPS gets zero, but they act like that's the way they want it.

I too had far too many [very expensive] UPS packages left sitting on doorsteps ALL day long while my customers were at work. I asked for a sig for a reason. Not only that, but their International Brokerage fees are outrageous.
