Hi, Tonight I was listing books and one of my titles The Secret History by Donna Tartt is a second printing before publication. Is this the same as an advance reading copy? First time I have run across this. There are several copies listed at 50.00 and up on Abe but they provide no info. Are these type books valuable? Thanks to anyone who can help me out here. You guys are always great. I have learned a lot here.

NO. "publication" in the book industry is the officially scheduled release date, not the date the books come off the presses or out of the bindery.
Second (or third) printing before publication means that the pre-publication orders for the book were unexpectedly high, so they ordered another batch of them printed BEFORE the book hit the shelves.
It is NOT a first edition (which would be the first print run of the book), it is the "second printing".
"Advance Reading Copies" can be a regular book with a stamp or sticker on them, the regular pages bound in a plain/printed paper cover, or even photocopies of the author's manuscript ... it really varies.
