Down here in the Baltimore area. I wonder if the AW problems and now the eBay outage have anything to do with the California utility company problems? Aren't a lot of the servers, etc., based in California? Hmmm......

I still can't figure why they would tack a fee on for 10 days. With maintenance and/or outages, you'd never get more than 9 days of uptime.

mballai, Ebay wants to encourage shorter auction lengths, that's why the .10 cent premium on ten-day auctions, and the implementation of the Buy It Now feature.
They've made no bones about it and even remarked about it in their earnings conference call last week.

Yeah, down again. Could the rolling blackouts effecting their service now?
If ebay plans to add .10for 10 day auctions, then they should at least allow us to get that much time instead of ripping us off. I feel that some enterprising lawyer could make some money on a class action suit here
[hint, hint, hint]
Hopping mad about outages and ebay rip-offs!

7:21 AM EST and they are still down. I got up early to do some work on Ebay and see how my auctions ended last night at least it didn't crash during prime time like it usually does.
So if the site went down at 2:40 PST and it is 7:23 est here it means it is what take away three hours I think???? 4:23 there. They should be up soon as they wouldn't want to have to pay anyone end of auctions fee back for being down 2 hours.

Not only .10 charge for 10 day auctions.
***Fee Changes***
Today, we are announcing two changes to the current eBay price structure. Effective Wednesday, January 31, 2001, we are increasing insertion fees and adding a charge to the 10-day listing option.
* Insertion Fees
Here are the old and new price schedules for insertion fees.
Opening Value or Reserve Price: $0.01 - $9.99
Current Insertion Fee: $0.25
New Insertion Fee: $0.30
Opening Value or Reserve Price: $10.00 - $24.99
Current Insertion Fee: $0.50
New Insertion Fee: $0.55
Opening Value or Reserve Price: $25.00 - $49.99
Current Insertion Fee: $1.00
New Insertion Fee: $1.10
Opening Value or Reserve Price: $50.00 -$199.99
Current Insertion Fee: $2.00
New Insertion Fee: $2.20
Opening Value or Reserve Price: $200 and up
Current Insertion Fee: $2.00
New Insertion Fee: $3.30
* 10-Day Listing Option
A new ten-cent ($0.10) fee will be implemented for the 10-day listing option. The three-day, five-day and seven-day auctions will not have an additional fee.
We recognize that price increases directly impact our sellers. The last time Insertion fees or Final Value fees were increased was December 1996. We will continue to build a vibrant marketplace by investing heavily in technology, marketing and customer support to make it possible for millions of people to discover and use eBay.

This is REALLY BAD.
When interruptions of service such as this occur people lose interest – especially buyers.
Ebay’s higher fees = less service.
- No HOT, WARM, or any temperature backup system.
- An Announcement Board where you never hear “The rest of the story”.
- Search updates that routinely take 12-24 hours.
FOUR days ago (01/18/01) Meg states on the AB:
*Looking Ahead to 2001*
Our foremost commitment is to the continuing enhancement of our technology infrastructure, making it possible for an ever-growing number of users to reliably transact increasing amounts of business from around the world.
(Memo to Meg – did you cc Engineering on this?)
And, if you want to make sure that your potential BUYERS actually can FIND and SEE your auctions for 7 days, you can participate in this gem:
 10-Day Listing Option
A new ten-cent ($0.10) fee will be implemented for the 10-day listing option. The three-day, five-day and seven-day auctions will not have an additional fee.
We recognize that price increases directly impact our sellers. The last time Insertion fees or Final Value fees were increased was December 1996. We will continue to build a vibrant marketplace by investing heavily in technology, marketing and customer support to make it possible for millions of people to discover and use eBay.
What better way to drive sellers to using 10-day auctions than providing crappy service on a regular basis, huh?

Can't access ANYTHING at all.
Why do they only extend the auctions that were scheduled to end during the downtime? ALL auctions are affected, ALL auctions are missing out on browsing time.

I confess!! It's all my fault! I rarely list on ebay anymore (so I rarely use AW auction manager anymore either).
I spent Thursday-Sunday taking pics, setting up my templates on AW, etc for a big (for me) group of listings!
Everytime I decide to do some listings at ebay .. CRASH!!!!
__________
I have a memory like a steel trap .. unfortunately it's rusted shut!
