I just received the following email:
I have already sent you the payment for all three items. You had better send them soon as it has been over 2 weeks...
You will get negative feedback if you do not reply within two days to this email, and I might just take it up with both Ebay and Paypal.
The auctions ended on 1/12, EOA was sent on 1/13, buyer replied on 1/15 with mailing address and stated he was paying with paypal. I always keep the "you've got a payment" emails from paypal, but I figured I might have deleted it... So I check my history... No record of his name, no payment in that amount.
How would you reply? Would you forward it to safeharbour as well?? Here's what I planned to write, any suggestions or comments would be great!
---------
Pardon me, but where is this coming from? Could you please try inquiring politely before you start making demands and threats?
If you have paid via Paypal, please forward me the name, date of payment, and email address involved in the transaction, because I cannot find anything in my transaction history from a "_____________", NOR do I have any payments in the amount of $____. It is possible that you could have mis-typed the email address when you sent payment.
Thank you.

Thanks for your help guys! I've learned so much just lurking here!

Cougar--- ask him to check his PayPal payments if any of them show incomplete he needs to fix them. A lot of times if people cut and paste your Id they'll end up with a period or something after the name and the payment doesn't go through

You answer to this buyer is just fine except for the first paragraph....not necessary.....YET. I know that kind of email the buyer sent you makes you angry, but try to take a few mins. to calm down. When you respond in an angry way, it just causes more anger. Just stick with the facts.

I would probably write a really nasty e-mail just letting this person have it.....then delete it and send a more professional one. I always feel better after I let off steam to some jerk that doesn't know what he/she is talking about. If they really make me mad, I don't delete it but put it in my "SEND LATER" file. Somehow, just knowing I can press a button to send it anytime makes me feel like I have the power (tee hee). Hopefully, they won't catch me on a PMS day!

hmmm.....
I've been known to miss that last "send payment" button on PayPal ~ mostly when they first added the additional confirmation a few months ago. I got so used to selling I forgot how to win, I guess It can easily happen ~ bidders are human (ask any seller that's a bidder!). What I find inexcusable is the attitude in which he communicates. Sounds like a newbie. Personally, I would check my PayPal account and either says "Blonde Moment" or send a copy of pmt if it's there. I make a fool of myself often enough I like to try to prevent it when possible!
He could have made an honest mistake ~ just like you could have. BUT...
Would you ever be so confrontational and abusive? Those threats are definite feedback extortion ~ BLACK and white. Report him and get back to having fun

When I get rude e mails I always find it helps to get a new e mail, don't fill in the To: line, type the reply you wish you could send, then delete it.
Don't fill in the To: line because sometimes we send by habit!
Then write this person a "business" sounding letter like
"Hi. I will need more information to investigate as my records show I shipped to all my buyers that paid by paypal. Please e mail the item number and your name to me and please check... (whatever it is they can check by using paypal) and let me know.
Sometimes these people think the sellers are the holdup, and sometimes errors happen and the sellers are.

email the buyer asking him/her to doublecheck the ID they sent their PayPal payment to. This is one of the most common problems with them--a buyer *does* think they made a payment--but it has gone into the ether because they mispelled the seller's PayPal ID. The buyer gets steamed by what they think is a deadbeat seller while the seller thinks the buyer is "up to something." Happened several times to me when I was still using PayPal...

Had this happen to me before, too. Customer had simply mispelled my email address, and it was sitting there, unclaimed. Notified buyer and it was rectified. Of course, some folks get a little touchy when they think they already paid you!

Kill them with kindness. Something like:
"I've checked my paypal history log and it shows no record of payment from you. You may have sent the payment to the wrong email addy~~I have had buyers do this accidently before. You may want to check your paypal history log and see if the status of the payment is unclaimed. If it is, cancel that payment ASAP. My paypal account is [email protected]. After you cancel the payment, if you'd like, I'd be happy to send you a request for payment. Please let me know how I may be of assistance."
For this very reason I have added the following to my EOA notices:
"Please confirm receipt of this email by indicating the type of payment you will be using~~especially if sending Paypal."
That way I **know** when to expect a paypal payment. If it doesn't arrive three days after they tell me they are paying via paypal. I'll email a little note letting them know paypal has not been received and was just double checking in case an error occured.

I would ask him to go to his Paypal account and click on history. More than likely, he'll find that the payment to you was unclaimed. That's a situation I'm dealing with now...my PayPal ID is [email protected], and he put a period after com, so it didn't make it to my account. I couldn't figure out the problem, so I called PayPal and they discovered it right away. I haven't heard back from the buyer yet, but hope to by this evening.
