Have any of you sellers had any experience receiving payments from a bidder through Bidpay.com? I've never heard of them before, but a potential bidder says that I'd receive a payment through Western Union.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Hi Dan! BidPay is very efficient and fast. They will email you that the money order is on the way from BidPay and, in my experience, it arrives in just a few days.

It is free to the seller and costs the buyer $5 for the transaction. That is mainly why it was so attractive, originally, for international purchases because in many countries it costs them a great deal more to just buy a money order and mail it. This way it is easier & cheaper for them and it arrives to you MUCH faster.

I've had a few U.S. buyers use it also in the past because they had a very good comfort level with the service and felt it was worth the extra $5.

I have gotten a couple of payments from BidPay with no problem.

It's particularly useful for people from countries that are not supported by the "usual suspects" of online payments. And, the Bidpay folks do a verification to avoid fraud. I had a person from Turkey who bought something. Bidpay required him to fax a bunch of ID stuff to them before they would issue the M.O. IN these days of constantly changing "buyer protection policies", that made me feel good that a company was looking out for a seller for a change.

Bidpay is great--when you receive the *second* confirmations from them (comes swiftly on the heels of the first), then you can ship the item immediately knowing the Western Union MO will be in your hands in 4-7 days.

The high cost ($5), though, means that it will *not* be used by your U.S. customers. The buyers that it is ideal for are non-U.S. bidders who live in countries where MOs are even more expensive or ar harder to get.

I have had plenty of buyers pay me via Bidpay, and most were in the U.S. !!

Bidpay is great although I do not ship until I actually recieve the money order, I would never hesitate letting my customer use it.

In fact, if you accept money orders, there is no reason you cannot accept Bidpay. After all you get a money order sent to you, whether Bidpay sends it to you or your customer sends it to you, its still a money order.

Is this the seventh or eighth "What do you think of Bidpay thread?" we've had in the last month? I've lost track.

Spaz: You need to take better notes. You never know when there might be a pop quiz on this material...

I've used Bidpay and don't mind paying the fee. By the time I consider my time and gas to get a postal MO, five bucks is a bargain.
