After receiving no response to my EOA, I send a follow up e-mail to the high bidder. To give bidders the benefit of the doubt, I do this after two weeks. If they still do not respond, I file my NPB and do whatever I must.
In this auction, the high bidder was a 3 feedback newbie. Non-responsive to my EOA, I sent the follow up and received a response within 48 hours. This is what it said:
I bid on the xxx and then forgot about it I also forgot that my other xxx are a 30x30 most of my jeans are a 31 however i bid on them so i will pay for them do you take paypal if not what is your address so i can mail payment
Feeling like a nice person, I e-mailed back this:
Hi! Thank you for your response. I cannot, in good conscience, make you pay
that amount of money for xx that won't fit you! Even at such an awesome price, a bargain has no thrill if it's wasted money! I appreciate your getting back to me regarding this transaction and I have relisted the xxx on eBay. Please try to be more responsible with your bidding ~ seller's pay listing fees, final value fees, etc. To be more straightforward, this
auction has cost me $5 already and it ended too long ago to contact the next high bidder. There will be relisting fees and the jeans may not go as high as before. So pretty please (with sugar on top), try to resist the urge to place a bid unless you are sure you want to buy it (I have to sit on my hands sometimes ~ such is the curse of the true shopaholic!). I cannot say that other seller's would be quite so understanding in this situation.
Best of luck to you in your future bids. BTW, you get an A+ for honesty in my
book and are welcome back anytime!
I thought I would leave nice neutral FB and move on ~ it was a relatively innocent mistake of a newbie and I said what I needed to in the e-mail.
The e-mail came back through mailer daemon ~ bad addy.
hmmm...am I justifiably suspicious now or just paranoid?
Please Help! I am very responsible with filing NPB's and posting honest feedback but I could use some input on this one!
Much appreciative!

Hey, Cheapstar! When someone's feedback bounces back to me I automatically forward it to ebay (Safeharbor) and then they try to email this person. If it comes back as undeliverable to them, they will automatically NARU this person. If it works for safeharbor, they let you know so you can email this person again. As far as feedback, I really don't know.. I probably wouldn't leave any feedback at all.. you went and ruined it by being so nice to the bidder by letting her off the hook!

Leave a neutral saying something like, "sale is void due to bidder error." It gives future sellers something to go on. Since the person never got your next email, file for a FVF refund that the bidder never payed. If the person responds to it, just say "sorry the sale is void." The person should have contacted you immediately to let you know about the error, and now a bad email address?? Stop being so nice to them, we don't need irresponsible buyers like that on ebay.

I'll be called JaDeD for sure, but. Your eMail communication to that bidder made me want to PuKe.
No wonder there are so many deadbeats. Not only did you graciously let it out of the auction, YOU SUGAR COATED IT. Come back to this board in six months and I guarantee your attitude will change. You have good intentions but NO business savy/sense. We are not one happy family any longer... And... And then some...
I bid on the xxx and then forgot about it I also forgot that my other xxx are a 30x30 most of my jeans are a 31 however i bid on them so i will pay for them do you take paypal if not what is your address so i can mail payment
DO YOU REALLY BELIVE THAT ------->
[1]FORGOT THEY BID.
[2]FORGOT WHAT SIZE THEY WEAR.
[3]DIDN'T GET YOUR FIRST EOA WITH ADDRESS.
[4]R E A L LY WOULD HAVE PAID VIA PAYPAL.
Therefore, to answer your original question - leave yourself a negative feedback.

Since you got an Mailer Daemon on your VERY gracious response to this buyer, I would file the NPB and forget about the feedback...If you recieved a daemon, they never recieved the letter...take ExecGirls advice, and try to send e-mail to safeharbor too (altho I think if you file NPB, eBay shopuld try to contact and get the same result you did..think they'll out 2 and 2 together?..NOT)

Morgantown? My but you have a nasty disposition. Address the problem and not the poster. (and in this case, I am addressing you) Someone needs a moderator slap in the head methinks.
chepistar> The others gave you very good advise. You were VERY nice about it. Many others would not be so. And YOU run YOUR business the way YOU want to. If your business savvy works for you, then go for it!

Since you let the bidder off the hook, a polite neutral would be appropriate. If there is a problem with the email addy, the buyer will no doubt correct the problem themselves.

Please, everyone. IF your end of auction e-mails come back as non deliverable, at least wait 24 hours before you run to safeharbor.
Last week, after two days, I realized that I wasn't getting any end of auction notices from e-bay, and I wasn't getting my usual spam, either. I could send e-mail, but when I tried to e-mail myself from my back up account, it came back as a fatal error. It took me 4 hours with my ISP's tech support to fix it. Sometimes, things go wrong that aren't anyone's fault, and getting someone naru'd because something is wrong with their e-mail doesn't help. Give them time to fix it.
I'm grateful my buyers were patient with me while this was going on.

Thanks EG, I can always count on you for honesty! I forwarded to Safe Harbour as you suggested ~ I'll probably leave a neutral since I'm a bit questionable on the integrity of this newbie! quickdraw29 and morgantown I think you missed the point of my question ~ perhaps I should explain...this is a Newbie that responded to my request with honesty, not a lame excuse. I refuse to "quit being so nice" . I file Plenty of NPB's but I prefer "innocent until proven guilty". If I wanted confrontation and hostility I would go back to the outside world where I made a lot more money! I don't consider this bidder innocent, but "irresponsible"? She responded and explained ~ I appreciate that and told her so.
m-town
"JADED"? More like BITTER.
I've been active on eBay for over a year with a 95% sell rate and 50% of my customers return . You apparently missed the point of my post here and have not seen the thread I began as a plea for sellers to file NPB's. I believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt ~ I'm sorry that your experiences have left you so angry ~ perhaps you should reconsider your people skills ~ my business savvy works just fine for me.
furkidmom
thank you
You seem to transact your actions on a friendly note, too! I wish you the best of success ~ it pays to be nice thanks again!
