preciousminutes,
Thats a really good question. I'm wondering that myself. Can you recommend a really good virus program? My comuter just crashed last weekend and nobody seems to know why. We're suppose to go get it back today from Best Buy so I hope to find out what happened then. But I'm wondering if I got a virus in some email. The thing is I never click on any attachments in emails, I just delete the email. Is it possible to get a virus anyway? I have lost absolutely everything on my computer. What a pain.....

Well a few will disagree with me on a "good anti-Virus" but i use McAfee's online version which seems to do it's job pretty well and it cost about $30.00 per year to use it but at least it is set up to let you know when updates are in... however you can still purchase their anti-virus software at any computer store..
As Far as still being able to get an email Virus if you use Outlook Express Just opening the email you are downloading any attachments that might be in the message.. as far as AOL's mail and the others i'm not sure how they work

The most popular virus protection programs seem to be Norton and McAffe. There are even free ones on the net but I don't know how effective they are as I have never used them. As one technician told me, "No virus software is 100% including those used by ISP's." Still, you are better off having protection than you will be without it.

That's what I use. It catches about a dozen viruses a week these days.

We have McAfee on one system, Norton on my portable, and Innoculate on all three.

Innoculate is free.

we all use Norton Anti-Virus 2000 here. it costs about $40.00US retail and about $4.50US each year after that for definition updates.
I've used both McAfee and Norton in university, corporate, and home environments. Norton's consistently sends out the definitions before McAfee.

Yes, we are too. Between viruses, forwarded attachments from spammers, friends etc I got fed up. I use and swear by Norton and when they come in Norton quarantines them. I got tired of the hassles of getting them out of quarantine so I started checking my email on a web based program called mollymail.com (its thru emu mail)....I can check the mail, delete the crap and then go to my netscape and download the rest. I know it sounds like a pain in the A__ ...and it is, but at least the mail is screened before it even gets to my computer and my chances for getting a virus are decreased considerably. Several of these viruses come in from friends who send me forwarded (MANY TIMES FORWARDED) jokes which I do not open anymore and from ebayers who don't even know they are sending one. JMHO, Pam

I have received the snow white real story virus 5 times in 20 days and the only protection that saved my computer is pc-cillin. It's the best virus protection i have seen.Don't know who keeps sending it but the original sender site is denying that they are doin it. PC-CILLIN my savior
