I have been selling on Ebay for some time. I always pay the extra $.25 to list a pic on the GALLERY. Am I being stupid? Does it really help sell?

I use it on every item also, since it started, definitely a plus.

Definitely not. Why give Ebay another 25¢ when you can get a FREE gallery through Auctiva?

I use Auctiva, too. Saves money!

I never browse using eBay's gallery. Not enough sellers use it to make it worthwhile. (I use it to browse on Yahoo because the majority of auctions are included in their gallery automatically.) I also use the free Auctiva personal gallery now on my own auctions.

I use it on higher ticket items, or those with brands or marks that I feel people will specifically look for. And I use "My Auction Gallery". I have experimented in the past with two identical items; one with ebay's gallery and one without. The gallery one always got at least 50% more hits. Lately though I noticed more and more sellers not using it. I do shop with the gallery, and I notice an increasing drop in number of auctions in the gallery at least in the catergories where I typically browse.

Actually, we received an e-mail from eBay asking why we don't list regionally and in the same letter they stated that Gallery use increased total sales by 8%.

Sorry, 8% doesn't do enough to warrant an extra quarter on most of our items, but you can do your own math based on this and see if it does anything for you.

I used to use the gallery -- and had a link to my gallery items only in each of my auction ads. This did increase bids -- particularly multiple bids from the same person.

I've found I get nearly the same effect using the free gallery provided by Auctiva.com.

Hi I have read references to Auctiva free gallery before. I've never understood how it works. Does a gallery image show up on the Ebay listing?

I used the gallery at one time, I don't anymore. For me it wasn't worth it.

Auctiva Gallery images do not show up in eBay's gallery. Once you sign up with Auctiva, your auctions are automatically added into your own personal gallery and a link to your gallery is attached at the end of your auction description. A bidder can click your Auctiva link and will then see thumbnail pics of all of your current auctions with opening & current bids & ending time/date info. (It is just a visual tool similar to the eBay "sellers other auctions" link.) It is completely free to use, though.

Yes, I used ebays gallery but that stops on Feb 1st when I go Vanilla! Signed up for My Auction Gallery and am very pleased with it. Nice pics and now I will learn to do them even better, now that I've seen how they turn out. Also they can e-mail you from there or get the current bidding if they want. Free but after you use it awhile you can make a donation depending on how much you use it, ect.

I use the Gallery when I sell some of my clothes. Since they have the thumbnails in the listing pages it is a quick view as you scroll the page for broswers. But for my regular merchandise.......nah the little camera icon that tells people it has a pick is enough for me.

WOW! Great advise. I just set up my "AUCTIVA SHOWCASE" and am VERY impressed on how easy it was and how great it looks. EBAY will not longer get my $.25 per item for their gallery.

Thank YOU ALL for this GREAT advise.

I use the gallery as a vehicle to draw customers to my auctions. I also utilize Auctiva as well (way cool for free!!). I think it depends on what type of item you are auctioning off. I try to use the gallery to attract on items most likely to catch their eyes. Personally, I believe the gallery to be quite effective!

Question about Auctiva if you please. How often do they automatically add the items to your gallery? I listed 2 items after signing up for it and creating my gallery. I just checked and they are not in my gallery. How do I add them?

Is this automatic once a day like paypal logo ?

I really like the way they track the auctions but the new listings aren't there.

Hi rarriffle: I don't remember the exact time before they show up in your showcase but I do remember that it takes a little while before they show up... I don't think it's a once-a-day thing though either..

rariffe,

I agree, it does take TIME for Auctiva to show up. Generally, I think they update it about every 6 hrs? The 3 that they mention in their website isn't necessarily so.

Hey thanks, ExecGirl and everyone, for mentioning auctiva..I didn't know about it and had stopped using gallery on everything last month to pare down costs.

Signed up & it all just fell into place. What a cool deal! I'm sure there are more things you can do through auctiva but, since I'm not much of a computer brain, I haven't figured them out yet!

Hey beadcat! Yeah, I noticed that a couple of my pics looked kinda funky too. But it's still cool, huh? And atleast when they go onto the auction they will see the better pic I guess.

Wow, I'm surprised so many of you have missed how the eBay Gallery works.

Yes, the micro galleries are a good idea to have in your "auction" listings, but the eBay gallery serves a purpose as well.

Some bidders go for the "eye candy" and the 2 bits is well worth it. Also, if you're careful how you use the Title field, you can grab an extra space on the listing pages, same goes on the Search pages.

Do any of you actually browse the eBay listings?

Not saying I'd spend the 25 cents on a $10 item, but a $100 item, or more, you betcha.

Agree as to the effect of the ebay gallery under certain circumstances, but most people tend to just type into search what they are looking for instead of tediously going through the entire gallery. I only use it now for certain pieces that warrant it as reddeer suggested, but the auctiva gallery is great because they can look at JUST MY STUFF in one gallery.

Reddeer, I totally agree about using the gallery, especially for higher end items! My problem is most of my bead auction sell for less than 10.00. That's listing, gallery and FVF, plus the cost of the item.I had to rethink putting all of my items in the gallery. I will certainly still use it for alot of my auctions. When I shop, it is Always in the gallery, then if I like a sellers stuff, I check out their other auctions.

beadcat; try those same pics in the "My Auction Gallery" I don't remember their url but you can check out mine '[email protected]' on Ebay, and compare the quality of the pictures.Once you're there click on the palette and you'll get the company info, very friendly and helpful.

Re: Blurry Auctiva Pictures

You can change which photos are used in your Auctiva gallery. Sign in and go to the manage your account section--there are instructions in there somewhere about how to change the photo. (I can't remember off the top of my head but it is very easy to do.) By default, the Auctiva gallery will just pick the first one it finds. Anyway, when you try to change the gallery picture you can display all the images within that auction & select which one you want to use.
