As a buyer:
I LOVE paypal!!! The last 2-3 months of auctions that I won all offered PayPal and I've paid using it everytime. Well recently I won two auctions that did not offer PayPal payments, WOW!!! I had forgotten what a hassle it is to go and get a MO, and go to the post office so that my payment would be postmarked on time..... and now I get to sit and WAIT, arrrggghhhh!!! Never again, unless it's a real one of a kind item.

As a Seller:
Sure I hate the fees, but knowing how I feel about it as a buyer I will definetely continue to offer it on ALL my auctions!!

I AGREE!

I don't like the fees either, but it will greatly diminish my sales if I don't offer it. I've had many of my customers meet half my fees. They don't seem to mind because it is still less than a money order, stamp, gas and TIME.

I agree it is necessary to offer some form of online payment, but I can't justify all the risks using Paypal...their incessant changes in policy and TOS, not to mention the fact they no longer have the backing of an FDIC-insured institution, make me very leery of them.

I dropped Paypal before the holidays and started accepting Billpoint, and if anything, my sales went up.

Online payment services are necessary now, due to the convenience...but Paypal is not the animal for me.

Nobody used my Billpoint and the fees are even higher since they send each transaction immediately. This really counts up on small purchases.

Half my bidders use Paypal so I'm not about to turn them down, unless and until something better comes along.

I use PayPal as a buyer and seller. I find myself if two like items are running I will bid on the one that takes PayPal. As a seller aprox. 50% are paying with PayPal.

I also use PayPal as a buyer and seller, and enjoy the convenience.

I have continued to use it because buyers appear to like it. As for the fee structure – it seems to me that the advantage is to the buyer. The buyer does not have the expense of sending a check or MO, the cost of an envelope, etc., yet the seller is paying a minimum $0.30 transaction fee. I think they have this backwards. As a buyer I would not mind paying a $0.30 transaction fee – after all, I am saving the cost of a $0.34 stamp plus any other cost associated with mailing a payment.

I think that if PayPal would charge the transaction fee to the buyer rather than the seller that their service would be looked upon more favorably by seller. As a buyer I would not object to a transaction fee – I am enjoying the convenience of making electronic payment and saving the cost of postage.

I like PayPal because frankly, they are excellent about transfering my money into my account. Now that EP is gone, I will need to look around for another credit card service because right now I only offer PayDirect and they are slow to move money.

For PayPal I say up front I only take non-credit card payments, but several times a month I tell customers in my follow-up email that they are OK to use a credit card. This way, I have been able to keep a Personal Account and pay no fees. I take a few credit card payments a month, and all the rest are out of people's accounts.

I like corrdogg's suggestion! PayPalDamon...you around? What do you think? If it was presented in the way that corrdogg presented it, I think that the buyers might actually agree (of course, this is probably wishful thinking on my part )

I only use PayPal as a buyer.

As a seller, I have had (and still am) big problems with PayPal, but I still accept them. I believe that what I expect as a buyer in a seller's auctions, that I should do the same in my auctions.

Hope that made sense, it didn't to me 0_o

I agree that the buyers would be willing to pay the 30c fee. In my invoices, I ask that they include the 30c in their payment if paying by PayPal and remind them that it would cost them 34c to mail their payment. I make it clear that it is voluntary and whether they pay it or not it will have no effect on the transaction or feedback. I'd guess that 80-90% include the 30c. I even had one person that paid me before she got my invoice, said she appreciated that I accept PayPal and would've paid the 30c had she got my invoice before she paid. She later mailed me the 30c.

PayPal won't start charging the buyers because they said the service will always be free to buyers.

On eBay the competition is there. I usually have several choices for the same item. The seller that demands I go purchase a Money Order is at a serious disadvantage to the seller I can pay via email. When ever there is a choice I'm taking the easiest path.

You have any idea how much my wife hates to make a trip to the post office to purchase a Money Order? Do you have any idea why I force her to do it instead of doing it myself?

I have been using paypal as a seller, although limited, and think it's been great.
The first time I try to use it as a buyer, big trouble. I am verified, I mean I was.
I filled out the form to make a payment for an auction. When the review form came up it had my old address in it for the ship to address, although I did give them my new address and it shows up on other forms on the site, so I clicked on add an address, the add a credit card form came up, so I filled out that form thinking maybe it's a round about way of verifying new address. Long story short, they cancelled my card and said it my card could not longer be used on their site. I did try to send info. Quite a few times because it said I was giving the wrong information. Such as my address, the wrong # on card and wrong verifying # on the back of the card.
What’s up with that? Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Tie a knot and hang on!

I am now faced with that "upgrade or wait a month for your money" dilemma at PayPal. I am one of those people who deeply resents being lied to and I am having trouble bringing myself to sign up. Since my seller account will usually take in less than $100 per month, I will lose money on fees every month, even if not selling at professional level. I would upgrade sooner if the upgrade would put the fees on all amounts OVER $100 a month rather than this blanket "upgrade". It would also make "always free" seem less like a lie.
