Okay, WHAT is THIS all about?? Today my Mom said to me "Did ya hear about the twins they were selling on Ebay?" "What?? You can't sell people on Ebay, Mom." "Someone tried to sell twins." "Real live human being twins?" "Yes, it was all over the news!"
?? Can someone please tell me, is my poor little Mom losing her mind, or did this really happen?? Of course I was out of town the last couple days and had no access to the internet (what a nightmare) so I couldn't visit you AW guys or check my auctions or anything GASP but I checked the AW board as soon as I got home, looking for this TWIN scoop, and all I got was sucked into 3 hours of reading reliable merchant threads... and.... oh you know the rest.

There has been a lot of press over American twins that were placed TWICE BY an agency whose main contact with clients is via the internet. "Sold" has been used many times in these news stories. Currently the twins are in the hands of the British social services, two sets of adoptive parents are making litigious noises, the birth mum has had a change of heart and wants her offspring BACK, and the child's father has filed for custody ..... this could look like an episode of Passions before it's over.

Yeah, I saw the story on either Dateline or 60 Minutes. Don't remember which. Definitely not sold on eBay, just sold over the internet through an adoption site. Altogether, the twins were offered directly to to 4 interested couples that contacted the site. Two couples each paid $8500.00 service fee (some days or months apart) to adoption agent contacted through the site. Mother took babies away from first adoptive couple in California and handed over to British couple (who paid more?). English tabloids got hold of the story, created a mess, British social services took babies away and now they are wards of the British state.
Mother on TV show I saw was trying to appear sincere - wants babies back because "now she has a job". Give me a break! Says she didn't receive any money from the adoption service fees. Adoption agent unavailable for comment.

AHHH I see. Thank you for clearing that up for me. I have to talk to my Mom about this.... I think she was getting ideas about selling me on Ebay.

Hello rocker.....if you are around right now, the entire story is on MSNBC right now. And I do see where your mom may think this was an auction.....this is one of the ways that the news media is referring to it (but not Ebay)....

You know, I didn't even hear about it. Twins, huh? I have seen a slew of "online adoption scam" news stories lately but I missed that one. GratefulDad About Me
