This morning, our local daily ran a front page "above the fold" story of a local woman who is "making her living"(wink) on eBay...
She quoted NUMEROUS finds she has made in the last couple of years, what she paid for the items, and what they sold for on eBay.
Now, don't get me wrong, but I applaud her success, but I fear the rise in prices at rummage and church sales locally now that EVERYONE knows that the piece of crap they have isn't really a piece of crap (although it usually is!)
Guess it's back to auctions..no wait...80% of the people there are dealers too!!!!
Just needed to vent...if you sell on eBay...DON'T put it in the paper! PLease!!!!

Prices have already risen, and the crap is still the crap as you say. The best one I saw
was a plastic elephant back scratcher for $49.95 at a thrift.
But I can't complain...that was the day I found a piece of Lalique for 10 cents at the
same thrift. Go figure...

It used to be that the creed of the picker, dealer, trader etc. was KEEP YOU MOUTH SHUT. I mean, it went without saying (no pun intended) that one NEVER talked about anything that could be remotely construed to their successes. Learning "the trade" was hard won knowledge and only shared by a seasoned pro that took a liking to you AND knew you wouldn't ruin anybody's action by blabbing. I have to say that THE one most disturbing trend that has emerged since ebay began empowering all the MASSES of clueless "dealers" is the proliferation of geniuses who think nothing of telling strangers and competitors where their gold mine is. By the time the realize the damage they've done to their new "livlihood", its too late.
I think it will be a long time before that proud little trader finds anymore of the items they boasted about to the local paper in that town at a good price.
