Hey fellow freemerchant.com users---did anyone else receive notice from them that they now will start charging on Feb 14th for the shopping cart?

And---does anyone know are there any sites left that have free shopping carts?

Thanks!

Yes, I got the message too, and I'm astounded at the amount of time they are giving us to take care of the situation; pay up or get out! Now I have to copy all of my ads on there and save them to repost later somewhere else.

I'm not impressed with their lack of concern for us little guys and no, I don't know of anywhere else that gives you a free shopping cart. Even tho Freemerchant did, you couldn't access the html overall to add trackers. Well, not that I could figure out.

Let me know if you find somewhere.

Hi Amy,

I'm in the same dilemma. I put my heart in soul into building this website. I need a shopping cart too. I have an alternative BigStep account, but I have to look at my account closely. It's been far too long to remember if their shopping cart is free. I just loved the ease, the appearance of freemerchant.

This is what I posted over at the AW Roundtable, but really got no response.

"Hello! I normally do not frequent this area of AW (round table), but I'm hoping someone can direct and advise me.

Currently I am using freemerchant for hosting my store front along with eBay. I am in the business of buying supplies wholesale and redistributing them online. Freemerchant has served me well. I like the fact that it is free and will remain to free with the exception of they are now going to charge for their shopping cart. From what I understand, shopping cart does nothing than to gather an order. (no check out service)

I just started to use this function and I have gained new orders outside of eBay which has been a nice surplus income for me. I am not a big operation. Therefore when it comes to expenses, I have to seriously consider if it's worth it. I have so far made it with very minimal of expenses.

Does anyone know of a very effective store front with reasonable expenses? I put my heart and soul into freemerchant. I have put so many hrs. into this little store front. The minimal monthly fee is even questionable. I'm just not ready to take that big of a step yet.

I'd be happy to hear back from other sellers whether big or small. Thanks for your input.

avmom"

Yes, if anyone else can recommend another shopping cart site, I would appreciate it too.

Thanks!

I use BigStep and their merchant services for credit card transactions is:
No setup fee
24.95 per month
2.35% transaction rate
.20 per transaction
I think that there is a small batching fee at the end of the day, about .25. I'm not sure.

The % rate is a little higher than I had in a retail shop but I think it's a good rate for no swipe.
The rest of the fees are lower than what I paid in my shop except for the batch fee.

I checked out quite a few merchant services and this one seems the best.

An interesting note: they are pushing PayPal.
