I recently tried a few reserve auctions, 3 went well, others almost reached the reserve prior to ending, but did not make the mark. My question is---is it against ebay rules to contact the high bidder and see if they still are interested in the auction, or no? Just wondering, I relisted them close to what they were going for but so far no bids and only 1 1/2 days to go. Just wondered if I could still sell them thru ebay but not on a active auction. Don't crucify me Just wondered. Thanks Fluffy

Yes, it's against Ebay rules. If you attempt to sell the item to the high bidder without relisting, this is considered fee avoidance, and you could be suspended. However, you can offer to relist the item so the high bidder can "win" it at their top price, and Ebay won't mind. You can end the auction immediately after s/he bids. If you're concerned about someone else sniping this person's bid, list your high bidder as the only approved bidder. Then s/he can bid at his/her convenience. Just be sure that, if you contact the high bidder, the offer to relist is very clear, so there is no question about your intentions regarding an "off-Ebay" transaction.
