I bought some Mate de coca on Ebay a few weeks ago. It's a SOOoothing tea made from the almost completely de-cocainized leaves of a South American botanical.
It's not bad and is soothing to the stomach.
It does, however make my mouth feel funny.
Peruvians and Bolivians have used the full strength stuff for centuries for atlitude sickness.
Clinically it helps to oxygenate the blood.
Anyway, he emails me that EBAY cancelled all of his auctions and banned further sales.
My question is that since this stuff has to clear customs before entering the country and it is PERFECTLY legal, WHY does, or how CAN, EBAY ban it?
Factoid. The largest US buyer of De-cocainized coca leaves is non other than Coca-Cola. They claim it is an indespensible flavoring agent in their product.
This begs the question, "should Ebay allow sales of Coca-Cola" and if they do allow Coca-Cola are they descriminating against this seller??

Most of us here are aware that you are unhappy with eBay..Fine and dandy..
First you quit as a seller, but you continue to buy?
If eBay is so terrible in your eyes why do you continue to use it for any reason (buying OR selling)? Are you just LOOKING for something to batch(sp) about?
If you are truly discontented with eBay, please let it go and "move along, nuthin to see here"...
It seems by your diatribes that you MAY have an ulterior motive..Were you suspended by eBay?..if so, what was the infraction?
If you weren't...what is the big beef?..the loss of sales? Could it be due to the Bush caused recession? How bout the fact that everybody is trying to sell their crap on eBay?
Or how bout most online sellers have NO idea of a profit margin, and choose to blame eBay's "HIGH" fees as their excuse...
You think fees are too high, try running a B&M business...

I don't like Ebay. My reasons are clear and It seems this sentiment is not mine alone.
The fact that I don't like there policies doesn't mean I should, or should have to, stop buying there.
I have had my own business for 22 years so I understand the fees and I don't believe I've ever said I thought their fees were any problem at all. On the contrary I think there fees are pretty reasonable.
Their pretentious policies, unwillingness to live by there own rules, heavy handed tactics , lies, twisted truths, hypocrisy, poor service and general attitude are what bother me.(I hope that's enough for you)
Why does there have to be an ulterior motive. Does EVERYTHING have to have a sinister side? I don't think so.
I just don't like them. Ebay and I have had it out a few times and believe me they've paid dearly.
I don't even begrudge them making a HUGE profit. I just wish they would give sellers the same latitude and quit trying to micro manage every auction for their maximum gain while denying sellers the use of the same rules and the same tools.
You have to admit that Ebay has gone back on promisses, violated privacy policy, broken THEIR OWN spamming policy while still telling us WE can't spam (never have never will. It's the principal). They impose double standard after double standard and are basically just a bunch of money grubbing bullies and liars trying to make even more money by telling even more lies and bullying even more sellers.
I still browse for deals. I like to do that even though the best deals aren't on ebay the fact is the best selection is.
My beef insn't economic. It's above that. I suppose that's why some people don't see it. Some folks figure if not for MONEY then why bother.
I'll tell you why. Because if we left the non money issues to the spineless cowards we would ALL be in the hurt bag.
Ebay has a few scares on their belly from my sword and I have a few minor bruises from them but when they crossed swords with me I told them they would wish they had not. I assure you, they now wish they had not.
As long as my enemy "the Dragon" and I both breath, I will fight the dragon until it quits threatening me and the other little people with it's fire.
If they maintain their dishonest, hypocritical ways I reserve the right to take them to task until hell freezes over. If they still have still not changed their ways then I guess I go to Ebay and shop for some skates.

Horizon,
I'm not sure I'm understanding this correctly.
You say you bought the tea a few weeks ago yet Ebay have only now cancelled the auctions??? Or did they cancel them a few weeks ago? Or are you a regular customer from this seller and this has happened since your last purchase - therefore cannot buy again?
Just needing a clearer picture.
I would also like to know the reason Ebay gave as to why they were cancelled.

Actually, I bought the tea originally on YAHOO a few weeks ago. The seller emailed me to alert me he was now offering it on Ebay.
A few days later he sent me another Email telling me Ebay had yanked all of his auctions because of some TOS violation regarding banned products.
I think sometimes Ebay just does these things because they can and NOT because it is a violation of any rule or law.
This is speculation but wonder if some nosey busybody emailed Ebay and told them the seller was selling cocaine on Ebay. Rather than doing what customer service SHOULD do and investigate. They did the easiest thing and just yanked the auctions.

It's possible they mistook it for the real thing ... the plain dried leaf is widely sold in the markets of high-altitude areas of S America for headaches (made into tea, you would have to drink several gallons of the stuf made from the non-decocainized leaves to get more than mild stimulation, and a numb feeling to your mouth).
The SELLER will have to send the proper documentation, INCLUDING a quote from the customs regulations about de-cocainized leaves being OK to import, and maybe a scan of the import documents, and inform eBay that the leaves are a LEGAL HERB, not a banned drug.

The POINT here is that Ebay cancelled and BANNED the auction of a perfectly legal item.
Why should the seller have to get customs reports etc to send to ebay? NOBODY AT EBAY WOULD READ OR RESPOND to THEM ANYWAY.
Heavy handed, short sighted, ill concieved bullying by greedEbay. Maybe somebody turned him in. SO WHAT, if it's legal what's the problem?
I just HATE GreedEbays attitude. It seems to be, "if somebody turns in somebody else and says an item is "bad" that's good enough for us. We're too busy thinking up new ways to make ourselves more money while minimizing our sellers returns to worry about whether it's right or not. CANCEL THE AUCTION".

HORIZONOD:
Give it a REST...You actually LOVE EBAY! There is absolutely no question in my mind. If it were not for Ebay, your life world be pretty boring...You would have nothing to complain about. Ebay has made you money. They are the HOTTEST and LARGEST online auction. NOTHING is perfect and not everyone likes their rules. I have been selling on Ebay for a LONG time and have NEVER had one problem like you seem to have had. Sure, I have 4 negative Feedbacks but they are from seller whom I purchased Items from like you that did not send the merchandise.. I have NEVER received a NEgative feedback from anyone buying from me. I have had 2 items lost in the mail in 2 years. I immediately REFUNDED the $$$ to the buyer without question. Those same 2 buyers have become great customers of mine and I have made more $$$ from their recent purchases than I lost sending a refund.
Loose the attitude ! ! ! All it will get you is STRESS and more problems. Learn to GO WITH THE FLOW.....You claim to have been in business for 22 years. I wonder how? If I were as stressed as you I would have died from a stroke by now. Take a "Chill Pill" and GET OVER IT.
I also suggest some serious theropy. Your are headed for a MAJOR crash and burn.

I don't know- if I were a Democrat, I might possibly argue that, even as far back as a year ago, people were aware that there was going to be an election in the near future, and that the likely outcome was so uncertain as to cause a lack of confidence in the economy. Or maybe not.

Horizonod, I just wanted you to know that I absolutely looooove eBay. It's the best thing on the Internet. It's completely changed my life for the better. I am one of the best sellers on eBay, and my customers know it. Most eBay sellers are hard-working, decent, honest folk, and that's why they do well on eBay. Hard work never hurt anyone. Honesty is the best policy.
Sing with me now,
We love eBay, yes we do!

WHOA! First let me say Horizon glad to see you have made a choice that you feel happy with. I must be very lucky, after reading these boards and seeing the customer nightmares some of you are having on eBay.I have great customers, yes some forget to tell me the auction they won and I have to search alittle, but the good far out ways the bad for me. I have met some of the nicest people and they seem to return more than not.I take it VERY personally if someone is not happy with a purchase, and yes I have had 3 I recall. All 3 were due to the fact they did not read the description, were newbies, and thought I was selling jewelry, not beads.I refunded their money right away. What I don't understand is that if sellers want to continue to sell their product to the masses, how they can actually think the customer does not need to be 100% pleased, happy and in the right, always? There is no difference if you sell on eBay,at Flea Markets,Craft shows or where ever.Isn't the key word here sell, get the money? Happy buyers are return buyers.I will continue to always give my customers the best service I can provide, and yes I have had a few deadbeat bidders, but I don't bother to go through all the bull to get a fee refunded,my time is better spent listing or just plain living.Neg feedback is only given when I think it would be wrong to not let another seller know about a problem customer. Negativity draws Negativity.....

Horizon, honey....
You're commenting on the spelling of others?
Please don't get me started on YOUR homophonic howlers!
If you had been in my classroom, you would have been writing literally HUNDREDS of sentences using the words properly, in addition to the "regular" homework.
Regarding the auctions: since I have no idea why they were cancelled, nor am I privy to the email correspondence between the parties, I cannot say why.
Nor do I give a damn.
If you like the tea, and have the seller's email address, buy it privately and enjoy. Personally, I prefer a good Lapsang Souchong.

How could I possibly have "HARRASSED" you on Ebay. I don't know who you are on Ebay.
It just doesn't make any GOOD SENSE.
But why should this post be any different from your others??
For some reason you seem to have a personal grudge against me that is clouding your reasoning.
Are you now going to move from off topic personal attacks to outright lies to prove some maladroit point??

Hi horizonod,
I don't have a grudge against you. I just wonder why you won't rid your thoughts of eBay if you hate it so much. You remind me of someone who has gone through a bitter divorce yet continues to want to socialize with their ex-wife.
As for harassing me, you certainly have. You called me clueless in one message, and spineless in another. You referred to me as a sheep who enjoys being kissed on the a$$ by my customers.
Myself and others in the EBAY OUTLOOK have never called you names. You just seem to be angered by our questions of why you're still hanging around a place where people talk about a subject which you despise (eBay).
Your grudge against eBay is understandable. Why do you not simply forget eBay and delete the AW bookmark from your computer files. You are beginning to look like a stalker.
