My son's band has made some cd's. They would like to send some to some fans who don't live nearby. If we use a padded mailer, what amount can I tell them to expect to pay to mail one cd? Do they qualify for Media Mail? I have a cheapo scale, but not one I can get an accurate weight on such a small item. Thanks in advance.

.97 in a bubble mailer. Once in a while they weigh at the next price up, which was $1.21 before the rate change (if I remember correctly).
Not sure about media mail--I have not checked into that yet.

They are eligible for Media Mail, but the lowest Media Mail rate is 1.30 (for up to one pound). So if something is light enough, it is cheaper to send it First Class.

Most of the time when I ship a CD in a bubble mailer the 1st class rate is $1.18 - - They qualify for Media Mail, but as kudzurose said, the lowest rate is $1.30

Generally, a CD in a jewel case ships in a 6 x 10 bubble mailer for .97; some have a heavier paper insert that pushes it up over the 4 oz and then you pay $1.18.

By any chance are these homemade CD's? If so, don't use a jewel case but rather a CD sleeve. I send out hundreds of CDs a month in sleeves inside bubble mailers and the postage for a single CD in a sleeve is 55 cents. Unfortunately, they just top the 1 ounce mark at 1.2. Bummer.

Thanks for all the tips. Yes, these are homemade, but they are also in cd cases since they have inserts and the words to the songs. They don't have that many to send, I just wanted to be able to tell them how much postage it would take.
