Yesterday I was looking at an auction where the seller offered free shipping for BIN bidders. Just to be certain that this would not be against an eBay rule, I e-mailed them first before I decided to try it for myself. Here is my original letter and their response.
My inquiry:
Tonight I was going through some auctions and noticed that one seller was offering free shipping if the buyer used the Buy It Now feature. They further stated that if BIN was not used the buyer would be responsible for shipping.
Now this seams like a pretty good deal to me and I might use the Buy it Now feature in my own auctions if this is allowed. That's my question: is offering free shipping to buyers who use the BIN feature something against
eBay rules?
eBay Response:
Thank you for taking the time to write eBay with your situation. I understand that you have a question about using the BUY IT NOW feature to include shipping.
This is not against eBay policy. The seller is at liberty to set certain criteria in their auction.
Thank you for affording us the opportunity to serve you! We hope that your experiences at eBay are pleasant and successful.
Since we are all looking for new ways to adapt and market, this might seem a good idea to some and a not-so-good idea to others. One of my best tips (accepting amazon.com gift certificates as payment from International bidders) I got here at AW and I just wanted to pass this along to anyone who might be interested.

That sounds like a great incentive as long as the BIN price was within reason. Obviously, the seller would include the shipping amount into the BIN amount.
But you never know what will work unless you experiment with it.
