You cant really tell from the picture, does it have some place to attach wires. I seen something similar that was a medical device, used to apply electo shocks in the early 1900's. I am just guessing thou.

I think it is a medical device:

The Still National Osteopathic Museum is located in Kirksville, Missouri, where Dr. Still founded the first school of osteopathic medicine in 1892.

And here is a reference to a “Bertha McManis” from Kirkland, MO:

CRAIG, James Henry, 76, died, 26 Feb 1944 bur. IOOF Bedford, b. Trimble Co., on Middle Creek. m. MONA GARRETT who survives, 2 dau. Mrs. W. F. (Bertha) McManis, Mrs. John Shepherd, sons Walter, Hurley and Russell Craig, bro. George Craig.

I am pretty sure it is an electro-shock device. Most likely, the light bulbs were used to regulate the power of the shock. I have a medical "heating rod" that is regulated this way.

Then again, it might contact some enormous alien named Bertha on Alpha Centauri.

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to AW but have lurked for awhile, I just could'nt resist this one.

Did you ever see the movie "Snake Pit"? I swear I have seen the exact same thing in that movie when they were giving Olivia DeHavilan(sp) shock treatments.

That movie was filmed in the 40's I believe.

I think it's a GLORIOUS night light with redundent backup and backup for the backup with electro quintlateral 5 dial function so it can be set just right depending on the light you require IE: Very dark night versus full moon, early evening or the wee hours.

Or maybe not.

What possessed you to buy it? great price? To wierd to pass up? Liked the box? (I've don't that myself)

Do tell.
