I use the personal photo gallery that's been discussed here- it works in conjunction with eBay's gallery feature, and eBay's search description feature.

I've got 39 items at auction on eBay. Only 19 show in gallery. No pattern I can figure out- some old, some new.

When I search description for the keyword I use (in my case, my userID which is in all my auctions), I also get only 19 of the 39 auctions to come up.

Can someone else try this (check their gallery, or do a description search for a unique keyword) and see if they get the same results?

Seems that perhaps the search indexing is screwed up again...

I'm missing about 6 or 7 items. The ones I listed last night are there, but some that are from 2/12 are not there.

Hi Steve...

Yes, half of mine are missing...all in one of the doll categories. This has been going on, periodically for several days. Here's another thread:

I've been hounding eBay since last Thursday about this problem and the only answer I can get from them is that its my problem and I need to empty my cache.

I explained in great detail what THE problem was and THAT IT WAS NOT MY CACHE.

No answer from them when I said I just wished they could own up to the problem when its on their end.

It will be a pain in the a$$ but I'm requesting my galley fees back and my 10 cents for 10 day.

I WILL HOUND THEM TILL I GET IT.

NOW.....what about that co-op? We need it yesterday.

Hi again, packer...

Of course it's not your cache. What baloney. I've never had this problem before. I wonder if it's because they've been diddling around with the categories? My missing gallery pics came back for a while after we spoke the other day. Now...gone again.

If they don't fix this, I'll quit using the gallery altogether. The only thing worthwhile is the Personal Gallery you can have...plus pics on the search pages.

Search and category pages aren't worth it by themselves...I'll just use one of those gallery services everyone is raving about, if eBay can't straighten out their problem. You know, the problem they're telling you doesn't exist.

Hi toke,

I explained the importance to them for my use of the gallery and explained that if they didn't get it fixed I would have no further use for it. I will save my quarter per listing. I advertise heavily on my auction page to view like items through my photo gallery with the LINK right there, well crap, what good is it if they can only view less then half of what I have.
I had auctions close Saturday night and it was the worse results I've had since august when I went to the $1.00 no reserve thingy.
The auctions I have left are not doing any better

What jerks....

I'm back to only 10 in my gallery again. This is very discouraging.

Well, I'm glad it's not just me (don't take that the wrong way!). Talking to eBay support is kinda like talking to a stone wall sometimes.....

It's not a gallery problem perse- it appears to be a search indexing problem. When I search for my unique keyword using description search, I get the same (incorrect) number of auctions I get in my gallery.

magazine-guy,
Yes I know its "description search" I did severl experiments of my own and it came up short the same as the ones that are short on the personal gallery page.
I told them...it didn't do any good...its my cache.

The only thing that will get around this is to put a key word in the "title", The problem is I need every space I can get for THE title.

I've been doing some experimental searches of like 3 letter words.

I'm missing some from 'books' but they are only 18 hours old. Items from that time period in other categories are up.

Damn cache must be full again.

Bill

Empty your cache = Ebay doesn't know what's wrong

Down to 9 showing....

If everyone that is having problems would write to [email protected] Then maybe they will get off the cache cliche.

"Pay more get LESS", yup, that should be eBay's new Moto.

I wrote to PS support, and included links to a seller's search (39 auctions showing) and to a keyword description search (16 now showing). Told them that it wasn't my cache. Here's their reply:

Hello Steve,

Thank you for reporting that your auction is not searchable by
description. We are aware that this is happening to some of our members
and we are currently in the process of finding the cause of this error
to repair it.

As this appears to be an intermittent problem, if you feel this is
negatively affecting the results of your auction, you may wish to end
the related auction(s) and relist it, so that it can be indexed
properly. Please be sure to cancel any placed bids. You can then send us
the related item number(s) for credit.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you and we
thank you for your patience as we work to bring this function back to
normal operation.

Regards,

Hi.. I do have a sneaking suspicion that they (eBaY), might have become aware that they could squeeze YET a little more money out of us if they could charge for the PERSONAL Gallery...So, this might have to do with the Gallery being down so much: they are probably tweaking the software...Let's brace ourselves

CANCEL BIDS? END AUCTIONS?

Ya right!

I work damn hard to get the bids I do have, to cancel them now would be a slap in the face to the bidders.

They admit they have a problem and its theirs so why can't they just give us the credit and be done with it.

Its obvious we are not getting the exposure we paid for. In my case an extra 10 cents to boot for 10 days. HUH! 7 days at best and many of those without the full benifit of the Picture Gallery.

Hello,

Thank you for writing in!

I'm terribly sorry that you feel your auctions were affected by the
recent site problems yesterday. I can understand how this must
frustrate you!

Unfortunately, it is not feasible to maintain perfectly uninterrupted
service at all times. There will be occasions that eBay experiences
site outages, such as this, that are out of our control. We strive to
provide you with the best service that we possibly can, but please
understand that in our User Agreement we do not guarantee continuous,
uninterrupted or secure access to our services, and operation of our
site may be interfered with by numerous factors.

Therefore, in order to limit the strain on eBay resources, we had to
adopt a clear standard, by which, we would extend auctions or give
credits when we experienced problems. This Hard Outage Policy is
available for you to read and included in the User Agreement.

The auctions you had referenced to not appear to qualify for credit
under these circumstances. Be assured that your items were fully
available for last minute bidding.

You may read about our Hard Outage Policy by pointing your browser here:

Please accept our sincere apologies for the problems your auctions
experienced. We hope that these problems are minimal in the future.

Regards,

When I first started my personal gallery ages ago, I found that if you put the key word in the Title it works much better than if you include it in your description. I have just checked my personal gallery and all seems to be OK.

I feel like I'm riding a yo-yo. All my Personal Gallery photos are back!

How about everyone else's? I'm going to be listing and I'm a little nervous about doing the whole gallery thing...just to have them disappear again.

Hi toke,

Yes, for now mine are also back.
That is FOR NOW! Whats going to happen 1-2-3-hours from now is anybody's guess.

I think from now on I'll try the advice of opalhunt and put something in the description.
I'm testing a few keywords(letter combos) now to be sure that they aren't used by other users.
I feel the gallery is an important part of my auctions.
I spoke this morning on the phone to a buyer and I asked if she used the gallery. She said absolutely, because I have made it so easy to access. She never looks at other sellers things using the (see sellers other auctions) at the top of the page.
So I was real encouraged by that.

Hi Packer...

You mean you're going to put a key word in your title? It's a great idea, I agree...but, I never seem to have enough room there, as it is. A 2 letter word maybe? LOL

Hi toke,
Yes in the title. Like an acronym or something.
example: qd = quick delivery
then mention it in your ad. I just did a search on qd it would not be a good one to use, but you get the idea.

I know what you mean about not enough space as it is in the title, without having to a meaningless word.

I'll just have to use that instead of NR I guess.
