Just wondering when you hear on the news that 'such and such' murder weapon was 'purchased on the Internet' , do you immediately think "Ebay"?

In my small town, 'purchased on the Internet' has come to mean 'eBay', especially in regards to violent crimes.

Not even! There are a zillion places on the internet that people buy stuff every day. eBay is but one of these places. I definitely don't automatically think of eBay when referencing internet purchases.

I was talking to someone one day, and mentioned Ebay, and she got all exercised about how "that evil mother sold those poor little twins (twice!) on the Internet," and that she thought Ebay was the Devil incarnate!

Well, Ebay may be the Devil incarnate, but I tried to tell her that they didn't allow people (or parts of people) to be auctioned on their service, and she just didn't want to believe me. Turns out that the children were "sold" on an adoption lawyer's online site - not Ebay.

People just don't read!

Unless there's been a rash of murders with butter knives, I don't know how ebay could possibly be blamed for this one.

You can't buy guns, ammo, BB guns, and anything bigger than a pocket knife is also banned, I believe.

A friend of mine recently purchased a long sword (roughly 3 feet) through an eBay seller.

OJ probably does all his knife buying through eBay.

...and there certainly have been a lot of murdes with swords in recent months. Let's not forget the assaults with lances, maces, and battle axes.

One of my friends also bought a sword off of ebay. It was double bladed with a sharp point. That could kill someone.

uh-oh . I've sold quite a few pairs of steel toe Doc Martens on eBay ~ do you think they could be considered an assault weapon?

Last summer I purchased an African knife on ebay. Yup, it could kill.

Everyday I am warned of the evils of the internet, the scams, the fraud, the porn, meeting strangers, giving out your credit card info, etc.

Some tell me that looking at the monitor will make me go blind.

And others even suggest it is addictive.

Everyone I talk to who is "internet illiterate" seems to think that when you get on the net, you get a virus and porn all over your screen. Of course, if you are searching for cracks and stuff you could possibly get that, but otherwise, that stuff just does not happen. This is the information age and some people are too scared to face it. I sell CD's. I hope no one is ever killed with one of my CD's!

It is all kind of silly. Anything can be a weapon if you have the intelligence to use it to apply force or it has a cutting edge.
To face a person with a knive I will take a pool cue or a 20 once ballpeen hammer any day over another knive.

We had an airport security person here in Detroit take my friends little pen knive with a inch and a half blade away from them - then they served dinner on the plane and gave him a 4 inch serrated knive to cut his meat. - Duh....
