HI, I have this mystery bakelite item, marked PATENT ITALY. I cannot identify it, so am going to list on on Ebay as a mystery item. It is red and test positive for bakelite. It is shaped a lot like a red pepper and has a metal attachment where it is marked and opens to attach keys or to attach to something else. The red bakelite piece unscrews about an inch down from the top and the opening inside is hollow for holding something. I don't think it is for stick matches because of the curvy design, it would only hold three or four.It measures 6 1/2" long and is 1" wide at the top. I would appreciate any thoughts on what category to list it in. Thank you in advance for your insight.

I think it's a fertility symbol. Not sure what would go inside it...love potions? It's really interesting, whatever it is!

We sell a little silver pendant or charm like this in our shop. It is referred to as an Italian horn.
Men buy it as a symbol of virility I think. That's what I have been told anyways. When they come in to purchase one I have never had the courage to ask them.

Hi,
I couldn't get the url to open.
I'll check again later but from the description your item sounds like a needle holder. They were hung on a chain or chatelaine(sp?) around the neck.
Run an ebay search for: Needle Case
I've seen these cases in Bakelite and tortoise shell (real and fake) in a horn shape.
Good Luck
