Today a saw the old eBay advertisement on TV in 2 different channels (the old ad) about the lamp.
Who did turn off the eBay switch? Sales are extremely but EXTREMELY LOW.
People, NOW want stuff below the wholesale price, I don't know if eBay made a mistake with the new ad, where is says: Do you want stuff REAL cheap? Go to eBay.
What is going on with the old eBay? All I see that's selling are those products that promise you that you will lose weight. Everytime I go to the main page of eBay I see at least 3 to 4 listing related to those products, it used to be only 2, but now are at least 4, that's some kind of annoying and disturbing.
People used to sell, airplanes, helicopters, yachts, mansions and stuff like that, but I no longer see that excitement. And the big ticket page is full only of people selling watchest (Rolex) there's no more variety.
I used to spent hours and hours navigating eBay, but now I only need 20 minutes to cover all areas and WITH NO EXCITEMENT, everywhere I go I see: Use my tonic, pills, creams, spray, and you will lose 35 pounds in a week. What's going on?
Or is it because all the sellers are moving to BidVille.com?

I'm not sure where you've been looking, but I don't imagine you'll find too many exciting items on eBay's home page.
I just watched an old brass fan end at $13,955.00, and I'm currently watching an old yearbook that's at $1,000.00

You're seeing more diet items because this is the time of year when Americans try to shed those holiday pounds before summer arrives. The demand is so huge that it's only logical for sellers to list Featured Auctions.
Prices may be lower because many people are losing their jobs, less OT, work week cut back, people uncertain about economy and ebay market has matured.

Hi...
Just a thought...you insights would be appreciated...
Antiques and collectibles are a very tiny part of the overall economy.
The new items (wholesale purchased) etc...regardless if weight loss, cars, homes, widgets, computers, etc...are a much larger part.
Here's the point - the more people that come to eBay the better it is for those who sell the antiques and collectibles.
Those who seek out the wholesalers...had to know they were eventually going to compete with the larger operations.
As far as eBay and greed....aren't we all in this for money?
Really, I don't spend 40-80 hrs. weekly just for laughs...Do You?
We can critize eBay for lack of service, growing pains, site instability, etc. Yet, for all their faults, their job is to bring traffic...

It is MHO that the reason you no longer as many front page offerings for high ticket items is this....that is all they were......offerings. The stuff rarely if ever went thru to completion.
Why do you think that ebay raised the fees on the front end...as the ones in the back end are [relatively speaking] few and far between. The # used to be, in the halcyon days, [thats 'the good ole days for the Canucks! ] 40/45 %...now that things are tough, I wonder what the % is .
There was a thread here not long ago from a person looking to sell high end jewelry....they were astute enough to look thru the competition to see what was selling. Theu were mildly surprised that anything higher than about 300.0 was not selling.
I follow such a category once in a while...there uis a source of merch available to me....nice stuff [gold watches] fugghedabout it. Waste of time and fees it seems and.....what stuck out? The one guy that got well over 1,000.00 for his watches.....of course none of his winners ever placed feedback [6 or 8 winners] and the 'spike' was so easy to see, there was only one conclusion.
