Hi eastwest!

I get quite a few insurance requests and usually self insure. Most of the items I sell are small and fit in a bubble mailer. In my opinion, small packet air is the best deal that Canada Post has to the U.S. but, for some reason, it isn't possible to insure small packet/air. If sending parcel, insurance is available.
I have received a few complaints about the time it takes to send parcle post so I send small packet/air as often as I can. The downside...no insurance. The upside? I've never had to pay a claim

Hi Again Eastwest,

There is no insurance on small packet air from Canada to the US.

But for USA Air Parcel and USA Surface Parcel there is insurance. I know, I have filled out the forms and purchased it.

It is on the Canada Post website if you click on the link from my other post.

I do not go to a 711 or to an outlet, I go to a regular postoffice.

No, I have been shipping for many years and I have been very fortunate as nothing has ever gotten damaged or lost.

I do think if you are persistant (keep trying!) they will accept your claim. Unless you are making way too many claims? In that case they may question your packaging methods. Also you would have had to buy insurance for the package you are making the claim on. Did you do that?

Hi eastwest....I don't insure anything going to the U.S. Insurance can only be put on pkg's going First Class Air Mail as far as I know.....this usually doubles the price of shipping (Parcel Post). I'd hate to try to make a claim if an insured pkg. was shipped to the U.S. or overseas....it'd probably take months. I think insurance only covers damage and not loss, so if you pack well, I think it's a safe bet not to insure....

On regular large parcels, if the item has enough value (around $100 or more) I'll insure it (bonus is that on air parcels, first $100 is included). On small packets or cheap parcels which get sent ground, I self insure. People can opt to include an extra insurance charge (normally $.85) and if the item gets lost/damaged, I'll replace it out of my own pocket. There really aren't that many claims, so the charge/claim rate covers things very well.

I self insure small packets too. The increased cost of parcel post (which can be insured) is too large.

shaani is correct, Parcel Post items can be insured, but so can Small Packet Air if they are sent Registered.

The cost is an extra $9 Cdn, but for more expensive items it can be well worth the cost. Small Packet Air items can also be sent via Xprespost USA, which covers the first $100 insurance, and will allow you to insure the item for up to $1,000 Cdn, and also gives you Delivery Confirmation & a guarenteed shipping timeframe, or your money back. Canada Post has had to refund a few Xpresspost payments to me because the item took 1 day longer than what was stated for the delivery.

Hi:

Would you please somenone explain it to me how you self insure Air Small Packets shipped by Canada Post to USA or Mexico? I know you can register it for $9.00 CAD but it is way to expensive for smaller items.

Thanks!

Not pepi3 on eBay.

pepi3

For my lower $ items I just go ahead & ship without insurance. If by some remote chance the parcel goes missing, or even more remote, gets damaged, I'll simply refund the buyer out of my own pocket.

In the long run you save mega $$$$, unless your high bidders are paying for the full shipping costs.

reddeer..TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK.
INSURING ON EBAY ...THIS IS OUR INSURANCE FOR THE US

While all of our customers on Ebay are given the choice to insure there product, most do not. That's fine we understand that it is your chose, to chose weather you want to insure your product
But it is a good idea to insure your product for two reasons.

1) If your product is lost intransit, we can trace it and replace it or refund it

2) If your item were to arrive damaged & proof was given to us of your damage. Our company would replace your product or refund

DIDN'T INSURE PRODUCT

While insuring on ebay is a choice we give @ the end of your auction. Most customers chose not to insure there products. You can request that our company scan your manifest. This will show that your product was sent out. We would suggest this if you find your product has taken a longer then normal amount of time. Please refer to our section on SHIPPING for the amount of time it takes! . We will not refund or resend product or products if they are not insured.

OUR INSURANCE ON EBAY

We are based outside of the United States. So our company is considered an International Company on Ebay.

Our company self insures all products to North America. Right now our insurance is $2.50 & 1.00 for each additional item. Because we self insure, if a product arrives damaged. We will ask for proof of the damage, at that point we will resend another product or refund Any other country should email us before bidding

Our postal service in our country does insure international packages but it is very expensive. $7.00 per package. So we have gone with self insurance instead !!

REALLY??? And who does that?? seems someone has been reading someone auctions. I am so happy to see you read my auctions .But 90% of my product NOW falls in the small package catagory. The other 10% falls into large package and i pay that out of my pocket. You run your bussiness and i will run mine. Remember i import so i can aford the difference, but i will ask for insurance now!!!!
