I won an auction this evening well after the post office closes around here and about an hour later the seller emails and tells me that if she doesn't receive payment by the 26th my item won't ship until the 13th of March! She's going on vaction. First of all the 26th is Monday, my payment won't make it unless I next day it, and secondly this was never mentioned in the auction. I thought this was rather rude or at the least not good planning on her part. Anybody else run into this? I don't plan on next daying the money, should I wait to send payment until the 10 or so of March?

You don't sound like you'er in a big hurry for your item if you're willing to wait until March 10 to mail your payment. Just go ahead and mail your payment now. The seller is probably having her mail held at the PO while she's gone (and if you're concerned about that, email and ask her) and she can ship your item out when she gets back.

edited to add... This was very poor planning on the part of the seller. When I'm going on vacation I stop listing at least 2 weeks in advance. This gives the buyer time to get their payment to me and gives me time to send the package out before I leave without having to rushrushrush!

Yet another example of a total lack of respect on the part of the seller. To continue to list auctions when you know you will not be able to service the customer is unprofessional to say the least. ( This goes for the PayPal only because I need the money for Vacation auctions as well ) Absolute greed. To hell with the customer, I want money. More money, more money, more money. So what if they have to wait. I want money. Me Me Me Me Me !!!

I would tell the seller to stick it. But that is me and I can be nasty. ( You should tell the seller to contact you when they return, and you will arrange payment at that time )

MrJim, you have hit the nail on the head!

I would tell the seller to ship the item to someone else because I no longer wanted it! What nerve on their part!

Why should a buyer have to use electronic payment just for the sellers convenience?

I would have zapped her off a Paypal or Billpoint payment ASAP except she doesn't take them!!! Which is fine, I pay by check all the time and I will this time too, but it just bugged the hell out of me that someone would do that. What if I did want that item ASAP - I'd be screwed - even if I payed her with a money order. What do you think the chances are that it would make it there before Monday? ZILCH!!!!!!!!

I guess there's nothing you could do at this point. Just don't sweat it. Take your time and send her an email when you mail the payment, also ask for confirmation of shipment from her. I'm sure she's going to spend her first day back at the Post Office.
I did go away for a week and had auctions scheduled to end 2 days before I left. This proved to be enough time to notify winners of my vacation and all but 1 opted to money order and the other did instant purchase so I took her item with me on vacation and found a Post office to mail it to her while I was away. When I returned all the money orders were in and all packages were mailed.
I guess I probably wouldn't risk it for a 2 1/2 week vacation.
I have learned that with online auctions some of the simplest transactions can go haywire and the more complicated can shine. Don' sweat the small stuff. Check her feedback before you send her up the creek.

Alls Well that ends well they say, I think!

She agreed to send me a Billpoint Invoice and I paid right away. She just emailed to say my item is going out the door today!

She'll get kudos in her feedback from me, for being honest and taking care of a problem pronto!
