I noticed a post on another thread saying AOL will be buying ebay someday soon.
I guarantee that will be the last straw for me !

There is a reason why I can see sellers doing this... Insertion fees from eBay. Adding that .30 into your price makes sense, but that .30 might make your cost to eBay go up, so then you have to raise the price even more.
Just a consideration...though I still think that you should do it that way, rather than go against eBay's rules and have a million-zillion hidden fees. I think it's best to make everything as simple as possible for the buyer.

I shudder when I think of AOL buying Ebay. AOL is one of the most inefficiently operated "services" going. It is a last resort as ISP's go. I hate AOL with a passion and discourage anyone I can from subscribing to it. All AOL has proven is that most people are sheep and have no concept of what good internet service really is. God only knows how they'd impact Ebay.

Yeah, that's just what we need. I don't know about you, but over 50% of the time I try to contact the winners of my auction that have AOL I end up getting it bounced back to me in a few days as un-deliverable!

I don't understand how AOL can justify their high cost? From what i know about ISP's, i don't think AOL qualify's as an Internet Service Provider. Arn't they more of an
I-N-T-R-A-N-E-T? Maybe thats why they charge the high fees. Because they have to pay other ISP's so their customers can actually get Outside of AOL & onto the Internet Super Highway.
Can Anyone with Knowledge in this area tell me if i'm wrong?
OH & BTW.. I too have used AOL & hated it. High cost, with very little "Good" Customer Service. Thats if i could ever get Customer Service. Finally when i had enough & quit them, they continued to bill my credit card. I had to go to the Bank & fill out papers so they couldn't get any money (which cost me another $20). As far as i'm concerned AOL is a wolf in sheeps attire, & it does amaze me that so many people are fooled by them.

Gotta respect AOL!
The largest percentage of my bidders are on AOL. When I design new auction templates, they get tested on an AOL browser first! I'm not an AOL customer but I respect them. With the merger they are going to get even BIGGER - fast.
AOL is the internet MILIEU; and, eBay is too. Both have excellent marketing Depts. Heck, the AOL software on floppy discs are already collectors items selling on eBay!
Love em or hate em, they are here to stay.

INTRANET? I'd bet AOL is at least 1/3 of the INTERNET.

AOL is for sheep. But I'll give them credit, they have 26 million people convinced that the only way to get on the internet is through AOL. AOL also has them convinced to pay a preium for services that otherwise can be had for free on the internet.
As far as buying eBay- I hope they wait about 6 months and get it cheap.

I just couldn't resist this post. Another opportunity to bash AOL?
A few weeks ago I was in one of the local office supply stores and noticed a computer sale with huge rebates for anyone willing to sign onto AOL for 3 years. I asked the salesman how many people just say, "Uh, no thanks--you keep the rebate."
He said the biggest majority of them do.
I think in some areas AOL works really well for people, but not here. We used the service for a few months (used our free trial up) then switched back to our previous ISP. It was just too much hassle trying to get on-line, getting disconnected all the time and so on. When their salesmen would call after that I'd ask if they'd actually ever used the service. They all said "No". I suggested they try using something before trying to sell it, LOL.

MTown..
Where does the 1/3 number come from? As i see it AOL makes up none of the Internet. Maybe i'm not clear on the differences between Intranet & Internet. Maybe i have the wrong idea ..
I thought an Intranet was (like a) Networked system such as inside the Pentagon. A computer system within the Building, that anyone knowing the access code/ passwords can dial from the outside, but when your in, your in that limited area of Cyber World.
The Internet.. is the Information Super Highway. With all its off-ramps, on-ramps, web pages, etc.
Now the people at the can pay for a ISP service so their employees can get outside the system & onto the Information Super Highway..
Can someone tell me if i have the right idea?

I am also on the AOL Bash-wagon! I had it when I first bought my PC. It really became rather upsetting when trying to dial up a few times, and then being hung up on, often when cruising through ebay listings.
The final straw was when I spent 1 hour and 45 minutes trying to get connected. While I was doing this, I heard a commercial for another ISP on the radio, called them the next day, and haven't look back since! That was almost 2 years ago.
I think that AOL has a large advertising budget and a snazzy agency that does a great job making them look like the only logical choice for the internet, when actually it is NOT!

I'd bet AOL is at least 1/3 of the INTERNET.
I'll bet 1/3 of the cars in the US have dents, oil leaks, rattles, and are generally not a car I'd want to drive.

Never liked "Time Warner" Never liked AOL either. Too much power now between them. My guess is that AOL will dilute Time Warner over the years to come and just be the big dog on the block untill the crash is announced and soon to come. Oddly enough they haven't started their layoff season yet. Soon to come though kid's -keep watching. Hey maybe Meg will run AOL next... wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...

AT&T has a $4.95/mo offer right now. Plenty of ISPs listed on CNET from $10 to $12.50 that offer reliable service (no busy signals, they don't bump you off line, web pages load faster). Actually all web pages load faster when you switch from AOL. That AOL message you get "Site not available" means AOL is overloaded and can't handle the traffic. The web site is available if you have any other ISP.
