What would you do in this situation. A bidder tells you that they have sent you a check twice. You never got it. Bidder seems to have some sort of expectation that you'll let them have the item with no payment in hand, though this is more implied than stated. You tell bidder to either send payment again or forget it and call the deal off, one way or the other, fish or cut bait. How long should one be expected to hold an item?

In approx. 175 transactions, I have had 2 "lost" payments....
I bided my time, and when they DID show up, it was just as the buyers had stated...first had put EAST xxx St. instead of WEST....second was a PO screw-up...someone at their end read 68776 as 63776....got lost for about 2 weeks...I realize this may not help in your situation, but THEY aren't all out to screw us!

I know, I know, but its late and I'm blonde so humor me. Did your buyer tell you twice that he sent you a check, or did he tell you that he sent two checks?

The thing that works best for me is a combination of groveling with a deadline. Email him again and throw in a lot of phrases like "sorry for the inconvience", "I appreciate your attention to this matter", "sorry to bother you about this again", or "I realize you have been more than patient". But add a deadline: "due to my inventory constraints if I don't have payement in hand by the 14th I will have to relist".

If the buyer is keeping in touch, I would probably wait 3 to 4 weeks, but I'm a soft touch. At that time I would send an email with the deadline and stick to it. That way you let them know for sure that the deal is off, and you still have time to recover your fees.

payments may get lost one in a million but not 2 times........neg this fool and move on but file a NPB first....he is a game player and probably a deadbeat or in a rare chance a buyer who i low on cash and can't afford it right now but wants it come payday or some other scenario like that.....bomb him and move on!!!!!!!!!

If buyer is communicative, I'm willing to wait as long as about 6 weeks.

I stick by my auction terms for many reasons, this may be one of them. The buyer has other options like CC if you accept or Pay Pal if you accept. No Pay-No Way! I've relised items before, FVF'd and got my money back from ePay. Stick to some rules or it's Chaos! My opinion only, everyone does it their way. I do take into consideration family matters, ie health problems, computer down etc. But, I doubt they sent the check twice. Once would have been sufficent.
