I've got a customer who is insisting that a payment was paid to me by PayPal and they've got "confirmation" to that effect. They claim it was sent yesterday. I kindly explained that I did not receive any notification and that it was probably a simple error in the email address. He wants a fax number to prove to me that he sent the payment. I dont HAVE a fax number, I did not receive the payment and now I'm afraid I'm going to be dealing with someone who will be quick on the neg trigger finger. How do I prove to this person that he did NOT pay me by PayPal?

Hi, I would ask them to check their account and see if it says "unclaimed" next to that transaction. They might have put a period (.) at the end of your email address which makes the payment not show up in your account. When I had my Paypal account I remember that happened all the time. Also, ask him to email you his "confirmation" so you can see what the problem might be. If he really sent you payment he will forward it to you.

Depends on what you mean buy notification. There have been several times I have not got notification from PayPal about a payment but it is in my in basket when I go look at my account.

Just making sure you are looking at your account and history if necessary and not depending on the e-mail from them.

I once paid by paypal and they didn't notify the seller for several days after the transaction and it had a totally different date and time from what I had on mine. Tell him to forward the confirmation e-mail. Try to be patient because if the buyer is telling the truth, he would be highly worried by your telling him that you didn't receive it. Many buyers are scared about being ripped off. Also check your paypal history to see if it's there.

I would also suggest that go to Paypal and you check your payment history, assuming you haven't done that already.

I am finding scattered cases of money being paid but no notice from Paypal arrives, or it arrives very late. Now I print out the recent payments and double check it against the notices received to be sure everyone's credited. What a pain.

When I was using an e-mail address with a number one (1) in it, sometimes my buyers throught that was the letter l (L) and they had sent the payment to someone else. I changed my primary e-mail address that I use for eBay and PayPal and haven't had a problem since.....but knocking on wood just in case.

I had the same thing happen just last week. After repeated attempts to get the "receipt" and only being forwarded the AuctionWatch form she used to close the auction, I finally convinced her that she hadn't sent payment. She marked "Pay with PayPal" on the Winning Bidder Notice but failed to see the warning that said she'd have to go to the PayPal site (through the link they provide) to actually do the transaction.

I for one am happy to be leaving AuctionWatch (which I am even though they've rethought the FVF). The opportunity to personalize all e-mail is a great opportunity. The company has a name very similar to AuctionWatch and does not charge for its service.

Good luck,
MJ

PS: Never did get a "Oops I goofed" or "Sorry I was such an idiot" e-mail. Oh well, 5 days of having her acuse me of being a thief and no apology.

Had the same thing happen. It can be difficult to isolate a payment that was sent as the filtering options in Paypal are somewhat lacking for this task.

If possible ask the buyer to send you the confirmation e-mail, and the text of the Paypal web page that holds the transaction.

One buyer sent me the "Transaction Id" of the Paypal payment. What am I going to do with that? I have hundreds of Paypal payments a month!

With the date and times listed, you should be able to track down payment if you received it at all.

Thanks,
Sun W.

If you want, you can get a free fax number at onebox (www.onebox.com, give it to him/her, and see what he/she is talking about. It is not a great solution, but at least it is something. Onebox faxes look like a scan on your screen, and you can print it out.

Best of luck!

WE had the same problem, Have him Copy and paste the whole transaction from his paypal account and send it to you, just one typo and it could be siting in someone else's account.
