I sell only very occasionally on eBay, and I don't want to upgrade to premier service on PayPal. Is it OK to put in my TOS that I'll accept PayPal only if it's from a checking account or PayPal balance? BTW I do NOT put the PayPal logo on an auction unless I DO accept Visa/MC for that particular auction.
Whadda ya think, folks? I've just started browsing this board recently, and you all seem to be very helpful and informed--and willing to pass on your expertise to those of us who need it!

sounds reasonable to be too, BUT it'll probably not work. All they will see is PayPal and you'll get payment by cc too!
There have been numerous post here from sellers who clearly state in their TOS that they absolutely do not take PP who get payments sent to them anyway!!!

Gee, sulyn, are you psychic? One of my bidders did just that! Thank goodness it was for an item that didn't go over my $100 limit, so I just accepted it and didn't bother chastising her (she's not "verified" so she couldn't have used a checking account to pay me). I have another bidder that won two auctions (combined total $160), but she's a newbie with 0 feedback, so I hope I get a cashier's check or money order out of it. In my EOA notice, I offered to help with PayPal in case she wanted to use it, so I'll just wait and see what happens.
All together now, "How can these bidders be so #@*!&*@! stupid!!!!!"

Sounds okay to me also.
I put in TOS that I accept PayPal--subject to change without notice-- which, simply put, means that it is at my decision only if I accept it or not. I won't go over the credit limit each month is the reason for this.
I also put in my end of auction email that exact thing. I tell them I only except PayPal until my credit card "limit" has been met. "First come, First serve"
I don't know if it sounds good or not, but it is an honest way of saying I won't upgrade my account.
Of course if they pay with PayPal using a method other than credit card there is not problem.
So far everything has worked out just fine.
With no complaints from anyone.

I use paypal to send and receive payments. When paying for an item, I use my balance (if any) and the rest comes from my credit card. One day I might have $1000 in my paypal account, the next day I might only have $14.00. (like today)
Driving to the bank to get a money order is a pain in the butt. I generally buy from sellers that will accept paypal or credit cards. If I were to decide to bid on one of your auctions I would have to predict whether or not my customers are going to pay me via PayPal this week (in order to have a balance to pay you with) or I have to leave a large enough balance in my account for a week in case I am the winning bidder on your auction. Should I happen to be outbid, I would have tied up my money for a week for nothing. Just a little too confusing for me. I would definately not bid on your auction.
In my opinion, either you accept PayPal or you don't. If your sales are high enough that you have to pay fees or stop accepting PayPal, then you have to pay fees or stop accepting PayPal.

My problem with accepting PP has nothing to do with the fees. I signed up for a premier account very early in the game. It has to do with the fact that if one of your customers lies and does a charge back, PP will often reverse their payment to you or restrict your account without ever giving you the chance to respond. Just go to the partner services forum right here and look at the Paypal threads. It has happened to hundreds of folks. So I dont accept Paypal credit card transactions except from folks I know. I prefer not to get PP payments at all in any form, but PP has done such a good viral marketing job that folks still think you are suspect if you don't accept it. I have changed my paypal id to one that is not my selling id. Folks can not just send me payments. Well they can, but since they are going to a non-existent PP address, I just tell them to cancel.

There is a preferences section in PayPal where you can select that you only accept payments made from a PayPal balance. If anyone does try to pay with a credit card, the payment will not be accepted. I'm not sure if you can select the electronic check option separately--but if so, that would solve your problem.

Just checked PayPal preferences out---you can choose to accept non-credit card payments from verified sellers only, but that could be a problem if you accept payments from non-verified sellers that try to pay with their balance. Did not see any options about electronic check acceptance...
