I have a JVC digital video camera # GR-DVF 10
This camera uses a tape. What I would like to know is can I use it to put images on my auctions on eBay & is there a site where the instructions would be to learn how to do this? Or can anyone tell me how to do this if it can be done.

Head to your local Computer store and pick up a "Snappy"...connects to your printer port from the cam or a vcr.

Thanks for answering keith, I do have a Sony Mavica 73 & also this JVC. I don't want to use it myself, I want to give it to my son & neither of us know if it can be used to put pictures on auctions & if it can, how to do it. We are hoping someone on AW can help with the answers.

Shouldn't be a problem to put the pics up...the Snappy "captures" a still frame pic from the video, and converts it to a JPG image..just treat it the same as the pics from your Mavica.
Does your cam have an output that you can connect to the PC with?(and does your PC have a video input?) If so, some video handling software may be available to capture directly, and you could by-pass the Snappy.

ok this is probably the dumb question of the night but after reading this thread it got me wondering. My scanner and webcam are low end quality and the pictures I get from them aren't very good unless the item is very small. I have a panasonic video camera that is great, is there any was a regular video camera can be hooked up to the computer to obtain images?

keith I guess it's obvious I didn't understand what a snappy was. I thought you were telling me to buy a cheap camera & forget the video. I understand now.
Not sure about the output & input, but will check. It's been a long time since I even looked at it.
Thanks for your help Keith.

mcjane -
YOU need a "video capture device" ... one brand is or was called "Snappy". It connects between the camera and the computer. The camera thinks it is sending to a TV, and the device converts the video signal to digital (BMP) images.
The only hard part is learning to run the danged camera. YOU can set the camera up as a still device or just walk around taping stuff and (if you are quick on the "capture" key) download later.

mcjane I agree with the advice about the Snappy. Great little device that plugs into your parallel port. I broke my first one and picked up 2 on eBay for about $15 apiece. The only real difference between the 2.0 and 3.0 version is the software, so you may as well get the best deal.
Using a video camera is fine for capturing images, but chances are, you're not going to get the same resolution as a digital camera. Capturing an image from tape is even worse quality...as little as 270 lines of resolution.

Just a tip: if you first record to tape and then send the image to your pc, you won't get a good image. To improve the quality, set up the camera to record the item and grab the image direct from the camera, not the tape.

I have a Sony dcr-trv11 digital camcorder.
It has a memory stick and all I have to do is take a picture of the book or if I video the book I can pause the picture on the perfect frame that I want and then capture the picture on the memory stick and then download the picture on the computer and get the picture after I download, you should have software for this task, it should have came with your camera.
The reason im telling you all of this is because you may already have the tool's to do what you want and may not be aware of it.
