Auction winner located in Hong Kong tells me she's sending a HK $10 note to pay for a $10.96 item. Too bad, the bank doesn't have Canadian change. Oh, by the way, this banknote is not issued in the winner's local bank
anymore (although it still can be used). So it would valid more if I keep
it for myself other than exchange it.

What the heck? Am I supposed to go to Hong Kong to cash the darn thing??

I mean, I don't mind the 96 cents at all because the item went for a bit more than I expected, but really... don't cash the note?

oops... problem solved.

Don't you hate it when you realize you were having a blonde moment right after you hit the "post" button? *L*
