Hi All,
We're doing some straw polling and want to know what you folks think! We're going to ask a new question every few days here and on our site.
QUESTION!
Would you prefer to pay a higher list fee rather than FVF's or vice versa on Ebay or any successful site to sell an item?
Option A: .50 list fees .00 FVF
Option B: .10 list fee 4% FVF
Please choose the one you would prefer even if you wouldn't prefer either.
Post here or at our website.
Thanks,
Jamie

Ditto - I choose A as well - but there would still need to be at least one free relist

When I frist answered this question I choose none of the above but if I had to choose one of these it would be ( A ) with free relists at least one or more.

I would rather pay less up front as that way I could list many items for fewer dollars.
If they sell then the fvf will be paid out of the money I got for the item not up front weather it sold or not; therefore I would elect "B"!

How about 5 cent list fee and no FVF.Anyway, I just cleaned all my photos out of AW and will not be useing them anymore since they only care about the big sellers.

Neither!
0 listing fee until you get enough traffic to justify it.
4% FVF ok.

I have to say "B"...with free relists....I'd rather pay a small list and larger FVF just incase items don't sell....Why not just a flat fee per month...?

Question: What has this got to do with eBay??
Answer: Nothing!!
Comment: Please find the appropriate forum to discuss this issue. Since it is not eBay related this is NOT the correct forum.
Thanks

Greg - if you read the original post, Canvid is talking about fees on Ebay & other auction sites.

I think Greg was correct. A straw poll for these fee structures on eBay is a moot point.
But whatta I know?

pharlap, gotta disagree. After reading enough of canvid13 posts about a co-op, IMHO, this is just a backdoor route to get input on the co-op.
eBay is not going to change their fee structure, so why would anyone try to get input on changing it?

Gisi: No back door. I am asking questions about what we want in a site whether it's Ebay, Yahoo, or a co-op.
Nothing secret or hidden here.

I've never visited the co-op threads...

canvid13, then is there some reason you can't post it in the "Other Auctions" forum?
Since most opinions I have seen in this forum believe eBay never listens to anyone (especially about fees), what effect is this poll going to have on eBay? (This is a retorical questions, and the answer is NONE).

I think B would be better for people who list a lot.

B (obviously better if you are listing lower priced merchandise)

Difficult to answer, its too cut and dry. Sometimes I sell low range sometimes high. One plan is better for one range and vica versa. Either option would hurt me at some point. eBay realized this and that is why they have the sliding scale, but it could be simplified I suppose.
Perhaps a site could let sellers opt in for which plan suits their general wares. or maybe split B into two or three ranges, say, 2% up to $40; 3% from $40+ to $90. 4% at $90+. Thats just an example without any real thought. whatever the schedule is, it must be sensitive to other fees that sellers are faced with, ie. epayment services, auction tool srvices, shipping etc. and as duly noted by others, any fee is too much if traffic isn't there.
As it stands, niether plan is suitable for ALL the varied items I sell, and a site with either of those set plans simply could not get all my potential business.
Since I believe that selling higher end merch is less work and more profitable than trying to move tons of low end, and I HAD to choose, it would be A. Not that I mind paying a comission, but if I could sell each item for a half a buck, its a no brainer. But, bear in mind the site would lose out twice. Once in all the lower end stuff I'd be selling somewhere else, and also on the commission they'd be losing on items that are selling for high dollars.
For those who don't like this thread....leave it, or go tell the school crossing gaurd or maybe report it to a safety, otherwise get a grip, Since when does ebay have to heed a thread on AW in order for it to be valid. Discussions like this are generally healthy wheather they have an impact on a venue or not. Even if they're self serving, its sometimes interesting to entertain an idea. At any given time 1/4 of the crap here doesn't have anything to do with ebay specifically. Personally, as long as those threads don't dominate the board, I think its acceptable, I just ignore those topics if they don't interest me. But I guess thats too simple of a solution.
It sounds to me like some have a personal problem with the poster, which not only has nothing to do with ebay, but it has nothing to do with online auctioning at all and just clogs up a thread that others here might otherwise find useful somehow. Go get yourself a box of kleenex call your mom and work it out, it'll be ok, I promise. And don't forget to wear your jr moderators pin, that'l make it seem soooo real.

Reddeer, I just read my reactionary post, sorry, not really jumping on you or anyone specifically for that matter. Just the general stoning that happens here too much when some things could just as easily be ignored that bugs me. Guess I'll take my own advice. Your contributions here are far too many and generally unselfish. You've been much help to many and you've certainly earned the right to spit on the sidewalk sometimes. My appologies if you felt slighted.

gisi ... Using your logic, why did AW post their zinger about fees on the eBay forum and nowhere else?
Jamie - I'd pick 'A'

Long-gone
No worries, I have BIG shoulders & can handle pretty much anything that gets sent my way.
Personally I could careless if Canvid starts 50 threads like this a day, but he asked:
"and want to know what you folks think!"
And now he knows.

I would pick B although I don't like either one really. I hope the next question of the day will be:
A Sliding Scale
B Monthly fee

If the site has ebay-like traffic I would choose A (with free re-lists for items that don't sell the first time).
If the site has no traffic, choice A is suicide, because no one will gamble on listing there to start with.
However, if you go with a flat 4% FVF you will not attract sellers who sell high ticket items with small profit margins. There are quite a few sellers out there who are selling $200 items and making less than $50 on each of them. I am glad to not be one of them, but the site does need these people. If you take 4% of their final value when they sell, what incentive do they have to list with you when they can list at another site and pay less overall in fees?
Just something to think about...
In the long run I think the best way would be to have monthly flat fees, maybe with a few different tiers based on the amount of items that a seller would be posting.
