I'm at war right now with the US postoffice over their international rate calculator. I entered the destination and weight just like it asked me to for a rather large (in size, not weight) package to Austria, then cut and pasted the quote to my buyer. Price quoted was $220.00, price charged was $309.00.
All the clerks in the local post office have little red crosses painted on their helmets. (they are all non-combatants) They took over 2 hours with me going over the rule book, and the postage charged was exactly like the rule book says. It seems the GXG service uses "dimentional weight", and the correct formula for computing weight 'charged' is (length x width x hieght)/166.
No where was I asked for a box size before I was quoted a price, and I have a big problem with the people that are resposable for the USPS website, and my battle will be fought with them. Even if I lose this battle, I won't let them keep the 89 bucks, I get WAY to many express mail payments, and every one that is even 1 minute past the time it is suppose to arrive, the buyer gets a heads up that they can get their 12 bucks back from the post office.
So far, no answer from the emails I sent last thursday, but I have sent 2 "heads up" emails. Only $65 dollars to go. My goal, if I don't get a refund for the difference in the quoted price, and the actual price is to cost them 10 time what they cost me on this deal.
