Great opening sentance...As you may have noticed, there are banner advertisements running throughout the eBay site....
Gee....I wonder which sellers have been "selected". Lose 482 pounds in 5 minutes or maybe the seller who has been leaving eBay for 2 years now.
As you may have noticed, there are banner advertisements running throughout the eBay site. When we introduced ads to the site, many sellers asked for the right to purchase banner ads. Our hope is to provide the opportunity for all sellers who meet certain criteria to purchase banner ads on the site. Later this week we will run a test by allowing a number of randomly selected sellers to run their own banner ads. Part of the test is to set the criteria for sellers who want to purchase banner ads.
The banner ads will run on the eBay site and will link to the sellers' eBay About Me page. We hope that these banner ads will be an effective way for sellers to build awareness of their eBay business.
Our next step after the test is to evaluate the results of the test and design the right package for sellers. Once we design the package, we will share with you all the details, including the criteria for sellers to purchase ads.

If they are offering them for the peanuts individual sellers can pay they must not be able to give them away and will be hapopy to get anything rather than a bare space.
Unless they are targeting sellers like multimillion $ Sun.

Reddeer: A lot of banner ads.
Actually the "how can we squeeze more $$$ out of sellers to make our ambitious projections" people at eBay remind me of a very fancy restaurant that I visited only once. It is one of those place where there are no prices on the menu and dinner for 2 easily runs more than $300US. This establishment went as far as to plaster travel ads, (in very nice gold frames), on the inside doors of the stalls in the euphemistic Ladies Room. You couldn't help but look at them...you were after all a captive audience in a confined space.
eBay sellers are somewhat of a captive audience too and the money making schemes aren't going to end.

Obviously this is for those sellers that frequently use front page featured. It's better to have an ebay seller use the banner ads than some website that doesn't sell on ebay. It keeps the money at home.

Hi smw. I agree with quickdraw29. Although I'd prefer NO banner adds on their site, I'm afraid that isn't an option. So, allowing our "in house" sellers the opportunity to purchase their own banners is probably a good thing.
The only problem I see is that it adds another layer of dirt to the already buried small seller because it's getting harder and harder for him to get noticed.

Hi Blanche, In general I think that if ebay is to have banner ads that the ebay seller ads are better than Wal-Mart ads or the infamous toaster ad...
I think what concerns me is that the option may be unaffordable to most sellers. And too, that eBay will use every nook and cranny of broadband to find ways to charge more $$$. Which ebay is perfectly entitled to do of course, but along with all of the other new fees and increases small sellers must be feeling the pinch. It seems to me that auction sellers are seen as cash cows, and the exponential rate of increased costs is not going to end. Sort of reminds of the Tennessee Ernie Ford song.
You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go, I owe my soul to the company store.
