There are a great many very honest and upstanding users on Ebay. HOWEVER, some of those same users, if treated unfairly and provoked, will exact revenge on their abuser.
Have you witnessed this...or even indulged?
I read on a board about a year ago where one user told of how he had been treated VERY POORLY and RUDELY by a seller. The seller had around 500 positives and about 15 negs, ALL rudely answered.
This guy said he started messing with the sellers auctions (in a legit looking way) and would leave feedback saying basically "TERRIBLE customer servive" and the like.
Eventually the seller contacted him through a bogus mail account the bidder had created for his other ID, and the seller tried to smooth things over so he could run his auctions smoothly. After that, the seller's feedback record actually improved dramatically, with him getting maybe 1 or 2 more negs over the next 500 positives.
I though it was an interesting story, considering how much disdain many have for Ebay's lack of ability to police effectively.
NOTE: DO NOT take the sellers side just because YOU may be a seller. Sellers have an even more vested interest in the "taming" of abusive sellers, since these abusive sellers reflect poorly on the rest.
Personally, I have NO problem with auction victims evening the score in this fashion.
What goes around comes around.
I'm sure the many do-gooders will come along and say "Oh no, rules are rules and if Ebay cannot handle all of these situations, then that's just the way it is. Deal with it."
