Checked my Ebay listings and found that everything that's held on a Tripod server is only coming up with an "X". The direct link to the pictures work, so it seems like Tripod is up to something. Anyone else with this problem?

Yup, same thing happened to me. I dumped them ( tripod ) and moved all my pics to my ISP.

Hi. I also used Tripod for my auctions. They wiped out all of my pictures last week. Said I was bumped off for abuse. I went and read their policies again and it states they do not allow remote loading...I don't remember reading this 2 years ago when I signed up...or maybe I was "sleep-reading" ) If you try to access your homepage, you'll probably get the "abuse" message that I got.

Probably what Tripod is "up" to is enforcing their Terms and Conditions.
You agree that you will not use Lycos Network Products and Services to:
Create and maintain a Lycos Network web page as storage for remote loading, or as a door or signpost to another homepage.

I wondered how soon it would be before they went the way of their sister Lycos Network site, Angelfire.
I have a feeling the days of free image hosting are coming to a slow close.

cougarls88,
Geocities has the same policy, and will eventually prevent images from displaying outside Geocities as well:
You agree to not use the Service to
(o) use your home page (or directory) as storage for remote loading or as a door or signpost to another home page, whether inside or beyond Yahoo GeoCities;

The images are still there, somehow they blocked access to them from an ebay link... I can still get to my images if I type in the url directly.
I emailed their support people asking if linking was allowed before I signed up... I never got a reply, and now they just shut me down.

The same thing happen a year or so ago with Zoom, at least I think it was Zoom. A number of sellers woke up one morning to find nothing but red X's in place of their pictures. Most of these places have restrictions on using their free web space as storage for remote loading or as a dumping ground. You have to read the fine print. I know Geocities requires the building of a home page in exchange for the free web space and I'm sure they'll eventually enforce that rule if they notice too many violations. Most things are not really FREE - they come with a price of some sort.

I remember when Angelfire enforced its policy and every auction image that was on Aangelfire loaded with the Angelfire logo.

You can still find free image hosting at Auctionworks or BayPal for auction images.
I've used both--currently use AuctionWorks & I am very pleased.
