I was browsing listings and saw an auction with "if you don't blah, blah, blah, then I will file negative feedback and offer the item to the second highest bidder."

Naive me thought, "Oh, oh, fee avoidance right in the open. They're gonna get it!"

Just out of curiosity I searched on the phrase (in quotes) "second highest bidder" in title and description. it found 3,931 listings.

Another wierd search. Try "lorem ipsum" to see how web sites have the Microsoft Front Page supplied dummy text still in place. Google found 17,000.

FYI...there is no fee avoidance. eBay allows you to do this. You can even apply for a partial credit on the difference between the high bid and the second highest bid.

Jane's right! If you go to the following ebay page:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/npb/e_npb2.html

you'll see that they allow partial credit for selling to a lower bidder. That's why many sellers (myself included) allow themselves the option to sell to a lower bidder if necessary!
