2 days left on a 5 day auction for a high priced item. High bidder emails this morning saying they don't want it, they found another one someplace else. I immediately emailed them back and told them to retract their bid thru eBay. As of tonight they still havent retracted their bid.

What should I do? Cancel their bid? Close the auction early and neg them then relist? Wait for the auction to end and if they are still high bidder neg them? This is a high priced item and my listing fee was high as well.

Any advice?

I believe that I would go ahead and cancel their bid. Good Luck. JMHO.

Well it depends.

Are there other bids?

I wouldn't cancel the bid.
Check his feedback and see how many bid cancellations he has had. If none then he probabally doesn't know how to cancel. If many then he realizes it's being tracked and wants you to cancel it again.

Send him an Email something like this: Gee thanks for changing your mind about cancelling your bid, I think you will really like the item when you win!

I even emailed them the link to the eBay bid retraction page. As far as other retractions...they have 0 feedback with sunglasses having just registered right before they bid on my auction which kinda makes me suspicious...could this be auction interferance?

There was one other bidder but I emailed them telling them the situation and now they dont want it either, having bid on another auction after getting outbid on this one.

Now is a good time for them to learn how the game is played. Do not cancel, Let them retract the bid. Why is it no one ever reads e bays tos when they sign on?

With the sun glasses he may have played this game before. I would let the bid stand and if he wins send him your notice same as always. If he doesn't pay (after the customary second and and non-paying bidder notice) I would leave him negative feedback and get the fees credited. Sounds like he's playing the "I'll bid on 6 and keep the lowest price" game.

A cancelled 0/sunglass bid looks very shillish. I'd leave it alone and see what happens, hoping for the best, that this bidder gets outbid.
