An actual e-mail received from a seller after my brother inquired about their 5 day or we will neg you policy:
greetings.pay pal is not a choice of ours as the wish sellers to register with them. we decline this move. as we support ebay fully. they give us free hosting and other services gratis. therefore since paypal is the commpetition for ebay, whom by the way makes the whole thing possibe. we will not not aid to the enemy. were there no ebay boom !!!! goes paypal out of existance. our loyalties run deeper than that. ebay offers you as a buyer several paymen options. credit card, instant check, ect. plus there is our own favorite Money Orders . w are glad for for lucid understanding of our contract/polices. As we applaud your hesitation to bid irrespective of our contract. thereby dishonoring the spirit on comity intended. we sell one single _____ (item edited) costing over $1,000 dollars each to the Japanese (who by the way are our best and seeming more knowledgeable customers) market. they are a half a world away.Yet they pay us international postal money order within 3 days maximum. Funny it's always the ones around the corner who buy the nickel and dime _____ (edited) . who have it seems the problems with as you say and we quote " 5 days payment is too restrictive". we thank you for your interest and are most appreciative of this conversation aforehand, with you sir.we wish you well and.. "happy trails to you"....

They wanted payment within 5 days? I hope your brother RAN to get away from even considering buying something from them! What a bunch of bombastic garbage!!
the Japanese, who by the way are our best and seeming more knowledgeable customers
Yeah, that's not just a little patronizing

Roadsmith, maybe they worked in the DMV!
gravid, put words nicely you!
I used to have a 14 day policy stated in my auctions, but I removed it, and guess what happened? I ended up with more bids, and payments still come in a timely manner (most of the time)
It's amazing that sellers like this are out there.

I think the part of this that disturbed me the most was the brainwash garbage:
we decline this move. as we support ebay fully. they give us free hosting and other services gratis. therefore since paypal is the commpetition for ebay, whom by the way makes the whole thing possibe. we will not not aid to the enemy. were there no ebay boom !!!! goes paypal out of existance. our loyalties run deeper than that.
I assume the free hosting they receive is the iPix deal. Funny thing about that is that this seller has not one picture in any of his auctions.
Where are the other services gratis that eBay has available? Perhaps I am missing some valuable freebie that eBay has.
They will not accept PayPal because they do not want to aid the enemy. They are waging a one man campaign to put PayPal out of business.
Any seller has the right to set their own TOS regarding payment receipt. While I personally feel that 5 days is a little like biting the hand that feeds you, that is the seller's call to make. That is why I advised my brother that it wouldn't hurt to ask prior to bidding.
Money orders from Japan can make it here in 3 days if they use BidPay to send them. Of course, there are varying factors of timing of e-mails and postal delays which could delay your actual receipt of the money order for several days.
For those of you who are wondering, this seller has been an eBay user since late 1999, has 230+ positive feedback (154 unique which indicates he does have multiple/repeat bidders) with 4 neutrals and 8 negatives. Most of the neutrals or negatives are from bidders who he claims did not follow his TOS or complained about the high shipping cost.

RE: 'Money orders from Japan can make it here in 3 days if they use BidPay to send them.'
As I recall
I have only once used bid-pay for receiving payment and may I add that I had no choice.
From time of payment dispatch confirmation to actual delivery of payment-
over 3 WEEKS, and guess what! they didn't answer my emails either.
First off, 5 days IS too short, but yes, M.O.'s can get here quick. I got one from Austria in *2 days*. I think the buyer paid big bucks to get it here that quick.
I "say" US buyers have 10 Days, but they get longer. and I also "say" international bidders are given a little more time, but most of them get here quicker than the US bidders.
