Recently I tried to relist a few items from January. I wasn't getting the notice that the relist were free, so I double checked the rules and it does say that the item must me relisted within 30 days to qualify.

I'm certain that I used to relist items that were as much as 3 months old in the past. My question is Did they change the rules or just start enforcing the existing rules?

Sorry, the 30-day policy has been the rule for years.

but it frequently doesn't stop your free relist if it is over 30 days

Well it looks like they are just starting to strictly enforce it very recently.

I generally keep my free relists in a seperate file. And use them when I have time. This files goes back about 3 months and I use up the oldest ones first, generally alwys 2-3 months old. And I have been sucessfully getting free relists on these for years.

But as of Yesterday, no more. They only give you free relisting on those exactly 30 days or less old.

Well power sellers support responded that it's always been 30 days, and it's always been enforced.

I'm getting visions of 1984(the book) Either I am INSANE or something charged. I am ABSOLUTELY certain that I relisted items older than 30 days before.

Anyone else remember this?

Well whenever they had the free listing days. I would list bunches of stuff that wouldn't sell, sorta on purpose. I would then be able to use the old listing to get a free relisting later. Although they say it has to be the same item there is really no way for them to tell, you just had to keep the price in the same range.

So I would save all these old auctions and work them off slowly. I still had some left from the December Free listing and have gotten free relists from them as recently as last week. But no more!

So someone explain this to me please. If you list a item and it does not sell you can relist it for free within 30 days?

Amanda...

here ya go...

Relisting Your Item
Typically, the majority of transactions on eBay are completed successfully! But, if your item doesn't sell the first time around, all is not lost.
You can relist your item one more time for free. If your item sells the second time around, you'll get the insertion fee for the second listing back. (If it doesn't sell this time, you will need to pay the insertion fee). Please make sure the following conditions apply:

You didn't receive any bids on your listed item for a regular auction.
You are re-listing the same item within 30 days of the closing date of the first auction.
You didn't get any bids that met or exceeded your reserve price (for a Reserve Price Auction).
If you choose to have another Reserve Price Auction (optional), you must relist the item with the same or lower reserve price.
Since this offer is only good for one re-listing, you'll want to make the second try a great one! You may want to come up with a different title, change the bid price, or add a more detailed item description. Check out the Tips for Selling Relisted Items for more ideas on how to make your second auction a success!

To relist, go to the item page for your completed auction, and click on 'Relist this item.' If you choose to have another Reserve Price Auction (optional), please be sure to enter the same (or lower) reserve price, because reserve price information will not be copied to the new listing.

After your item sells, you will be charged the applicable Final Value Fee.

Note: This offer does not apply to Dutch Auctions.

Yep, been getting free relists on old auctions all along. Have not tried for a couple of weeks lately cause I been having such a good sell through rate in Jan/Feb there was not many to fool with.

I remember in Feb I was getting free relist from December.
