I was using anonymizer services to get around a mystery problem .... and now that isn't working for me.
I can't search, I can't get to My eBay, so I can't fniod anything to bid on ... but the site is not "Down" according to the announcement board.

Here is a message I received from ebay:
Thank you for letting me know that you are having difficulties in
loading our web pages on to your computer.
I will gladly help you with any questions or concerns that you may have.
We have received word that a major carrier in the North East is having
some major problems. Now, directly it is not effecting you. However,
because of their problems, a lot of Internet traffic is being re-routed
especially to our site and it is causing slow downs in many areas. This
is what is causing your difficulties. I am sorry if this has caused you
any inconvenience but there is no way that we can control this situation
since it is not on our end. Hopefully, they will have it fixed shortly.

I can get into ebay but moving around in it is VERY slow. This has been happening for about 3 days; and I am from the Northeast. Glad to know it isn't just me; but hate what it must be doing to bidders.

Toronto Ontario Canada has been out since Sunday. We can get into the site with dial up or SafeWeb but I just listed an item and the pictures did not follow.
Any ideas anyone?
Besides this frustrating mess and no one taking any responsibility or action.... now the one thing that got us in is not good at all.

I haven't had any trouble getting around eBay until just the last half hour. I can still move around but it's quite slow.
I don't know if it'll make a difference but have you tried entering eBay from one of their other sites? Some of these are in a foreign language but I guess it's better than nothing.

Hi Everyone,
Ebay has turned into a DEAD turtle here in North Central Ohio.
Ebay has been slow since about March 8th. And unbelievably slow in the evenings and on weekends.
I thought is was a Roadrunner problem because ebay would slow down, die, then my modem lights would flash and I couldn't connect to the internet at all.
All the other web sites I visted were OK.
On Sat. 3/17 and last night 3/23, I checked ebay with rr against my husband's dialup.
His dialup was 12 seconds FASTER than rr with ebay and when we tested other sites rr and dialup were about even. His speed was about the same as mine. (Me 245kbps.-- him 161kbps.)
RR came out to my house on 3/19 and gave me a new modem. They sent the line crew out on 3/20 and checked the lines in my area. They told me they detected a slight problem and were going to fix it. I don't know if they did or not, because I'm still having the same problem and I don't know whose fault it is.
Ebay started out very slow this morning--now it's DEAD!
Last night it took at 4 minutes for me to totally download search pages and the announcements and help pages.
If the problem is rr, why would eBay be soooo much slower and the other sites I visit be just a teentsy-weentsy bit slower?
I just went to ebay (12:15 PM EST) and it's the slowest it's ever been. I tried to download the search page where I usually hang out. After 5 MINUTES, all I had was the normal ebay stuff up and the very top of the page and the ad. THAT'S IT!
Then I went to a site RR told me to go to to check my speeed. It's called toastnet.com. My speed was 286kbps, so I don't know what the heck is causing my problem. But I sure am getting way behind with my auctions.
I wrote ebay support last week. They said it wasn't them and told me to clean out my cache. I manually clean out my cache every day, so that's not the problem.
It's not my pc because every other place I go to on the web is loading as usual.
AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!
Thanks for letting me vent,
Bonnie

Bonnie those are the exact same symptoms that I was experiencing in the Northeast. I would try to access eBay and then I would lose block sync (lights would flash) on my modem. EBay was the only site that would cause that.
I spent hours on the phone with techs. Drove everyone nuts.

Hi Vidpro2,
Where are you at in Ohio? I'm in a little farm town in the very northwest tip or Richland County--95 miles between Columbus and Cleveland.
Can you access ebay now?
If you have rr, did you call 800-595-9003?
Did they have you do the "unplug your modem and plug it back in" ritual?
Ebay doesn't give a rats a** and trying to get help from rr is like pulling teeth! But at least they gave me a new modem and sent someone out to test the lines.
What is going on and what can we do about it?

bonnie actually I'm in Massachusetts, but the symptoms were remarkable similar.
Those are RR/Mediaone/ATT's standard responses when someone calls in with a technical issue. One thing I do is have them ping the node you are on, rather than your modem (which is what they usually do) that will let them know that they have a more widespread problem than just your modem.
As of 4:30 EST, my access to eBay seems to be alot faster. Perhaps they've swapped out that bad router.
