I really appreciate the prompt response to my last question, so am going to try again.
I understand that AdSubtract blocks those annoying banner ads etc. that are so prevalent here our beloved AW board. But what & where are all the other ads that it blocks? For example, I cleared the stats about an hour ago and have been lurking about reading the AW forums, plus doing a bit of browsing in another window on ZDnet. In 15 minutes AdSubtract has blocked 265 ads from AW and 266 from ZDnet. Is ZDnet winning?
My question is: What are these ads anyway? Who are they from? What are they about? Why are they there? What good is an ad if you can't see it? And who wants all the supposed info about me anyway? What good will it do them if I buy a new computer, change ISP etc. etc. etc.?
I would really like to know what is going on with all these ads. Can't believe that I am so ignorant about the topic. I didn't know anything about it until I saw the various discussions here on the AW board.
Apologies for the lengthy post but I've been curious about this for some time now. Hate to let on how "iggy" I am, but hey, you've all probably figured that out a long time ago anyway
