I just got my checks today for my US funds account. I figured it would be handy for those sellers that I can't pay with Billpoint or Paypal.
I was wondering though, how US sellers would feel about receiving one of these. The information on the check gives my bank's Canadian address, my Canadian address and it says US$ Personal Account. Then across the top it says "payable in US funds through Manhattan Bronx, Brooklyn Collection Arrangement at Royal Bank of Canada, NY Branch".
As I hadn't used one yet, could the US sellers here give me some opinions? Would your bank charge any additional fees to cash this? Would you freak if you received it? Have you received these before?

I have received several of these type checks. My bank handles them with no charge. Im fact I deposit them along with other checks and money orders and they have never even commented about them. I welcome them.

My bank has charged me for a couple of Canadian checks and the way they explained it to me is that a check must be in U.S. dollars and drawn on a U.S. bank. Sounds to me like that's what you've got so I don't know why there would be a problem.

Sounds like even my fussy bank would cash them. As long as there's a 9-digit Federal Reserve routing number along the bottom of the check, no bank should have any problem cashing these.

My bank has no problem with any check as long as it has a 4 digit or 9 digit routing number for payment thorugh the US Federal Reserve system.

Thanks! I appreciate your replies. I didn't want someone screaming at me over these. I thought they would work fine, but it never hurts to check!

My bank charges $3.00 for ones payable at a Canadian Bank, and they take FOREVER (about 6 weeks for the last one) to clear.
The ones that are payable at a US bank are just like any other check....

Your checks are fine because they are paid through a US bank. As a Canadian seller, I issue refunds in US dollars drawn on my local account. All of these checks have been fine with one glaring exception: Jax Navy Credit Union absolutely refused to cash it. When a US funds money order replacement was offered the bank refused that: said they did not accept funds from outside the country???!! It was hideous. I finally gave up and risked cash through the mail. Just a warning to Canadians using US checks drawn on Canadian rather than US banks, there can be MAJOR problems depending on the recipients bank policy.

When I used those kind of cheques--I always highlighted the US funds and the info about the US bank--that way the teller saw that first before any info about Cdn banks.
I don't have my street address on any of my cheques

My bank will accept checks from Canada in $US or $CDN with no additional fees charged. For $CDN checks, they credit me with a deposit for the total in $US, and then when they get around to figuring the exchange rate (I don't know at what point in the process this happens), they charge my account for the difference between $US and $CDN, but there is no fee involved.
