Yes, 57 bids! That's about 26 more than I've ever had on an item before. I never would have guessed it on this item. But, it's only going for $130, so you can see they're only bidding small increments. It closes in a couple of hours.

loosecannon, funny that you should make this post, because just this week (yesterday in fact) I got my own first "HOT" icon after almost 2 years worth of selling.....Most bids I ever had before was 14. This one closed today at 42 bids for a total of $56 (a great price for this item).
This same auction was also my first time selling an item for 1.00 and it was so much fun! I think I got about 15% more than I would have gotten for this item had I started it at my usual $9.99. I listed another similar item tonight for $1.00 and the bids are already coming in. I think my competitors hate me now...most of them start high and are happy with one bid. I wasn't trying to steal their customers, I was just trying something new to see if it really affected bids. I was skeptical, but i'm pretty impressed with how it went.
That $1 opening bid gambit didn't work for me when I tried it last year. I did sell one item that way...for exactly the $1 opening bid! It was a gorgeous satin floor-length formal gown WITH matching shoes. And the buyer never even left me feedback, despite the pain-in-the-butt packing job I had to do and the quality of the dress. I still have another formal left that I couldn't sell for even $1.00! Though I did have a person who wrote me after each auction had closed, asking if she could have it for the $1 opening bid despite not having bid on it the whole time it was available.
I think the $1 thing works for some categories, or some sellers, but not for others. And it's definitely not something I'll try again anytime soon.
